After all the drama regarding dates & rescheduling finally IPL is being shifted out of India. BCCI president today made this announcement in a press release after emergency meeting. The reasons that were stated were the denial of security provisions by the state governments of Maharashtra & Andhra Pradesh. But what do you think this all process shows? What it means to India & her people? Isnt it a shame?

Terrorism has won in this country. Terrorists -1, India - 0.

Agreed, elections are more important and IPL is a sporting tournament. However, I don't see why a country as big as ours cannot manage the security for 2 activities at the same time.

Right on the money. It speaks about our vulnerabilities & the fears deep within.

I sgree with Renie, but at this hour, Lalit Modi cannot afford to take that risk and host it here. If the terrorists do have a plan in place to attack in India, then BCCI is screwed for life.

That is what Renie said Zeon. If terrorists do have a plan, why can't India manage two events together?

Its Really sad........

But we all know that India can easily manage two events together....

the Main problem in our country is "Politics" no one can escape from it...

This time it was the turn of "IPL"..................

Guys,

I have a completely different opinion on this.

I feel it is good that IPL has moved away to some other country. Imagine, if there were some terrorist attacks during the IPL. It would have been a shame for us. It is a small compromise that India has to pay to show to the entire world that we have not compromised on our security and heeded to the self interests of a few billionaires. We have proved that, whatever be the matter, the government security is still the prime concern and we will not bow down to business.

It is a lesson for those people who feel that money can buy the government and make them agree to any crap that they can sell.

I agree that not conducting IPL has also exposed the security vulnerabilities, but still didn't we have just come out of the Mumbai attacks and then the Pakistani players attack. Also, in this scenario was recession and election, can India afford to risk another major human catastrophe...just for the sake of glamorous one month long IPL....

Please express your views and feel free to contradict...

Hmm... I take back what I said. Yogesh, totally agree with you. IPL is a huge money making scheme, and that way yes - our country has got it's priorities straight. We have enough rich-poor divide and celebrity worship in this country, and the IPL only makes it worse. However, I can't help thinking that our decision makers were not thinking along these lines when the decision was made. Frown

Hmmm.. there seems to be nothing right or wrong in any of your views ..

Cricket is a game enjoyed by millions! hell! its worshipped by me he he. I would beg, steal, kill for a good game of 20:20 cricket .. the tournament had to go on .. Anywhere! I dont really care if people make money out of it.. because what we spend in the IPL is not even CLOSE .. no its dust compared to what is being spent in the NBA (basketball), Superbowl, English premier league, Baseball, Champions league .. Its absolutely nothing..

So that leaves us with security .. everyone involved with playing the IPL were definitely sitting ducks if the tournament was to be held in India. Playing in south Africa is super! think of the prettier women, skimpier clothes, better cheer leaders and they wont have an eleven O clock curfew at their pubs!

but .. South Africa just brought up one moment to mind.. they recently denied VISA to the Dalai Lama.. i dont know if that qualifies as racism .. yet again .. or maybe theDalai Lama's credentials didnt match .. " hey you dont look like the guy in the newspapers!"

well.. but cricket does win over this argument in my head! and the for the Chennai Superkings it is!
