What? did not get it!

I know what you might be thinking... Kahin sala spam to nahi chhod gaya

When we comment on a blog, the value in the name field gets hyperlinked. By default, this URL is added with a 'nofollow' tag which they say does not pass any link juice. So, to award their commentators with some link juice, many bloggers use some plugins to remove this 'nofollow' tag and thus the comments on their blog become dofollow...

My blog was a dofollow blog once upon a time, but if you make your blog dofollow, be prepared to face the flood of spam comments.

Yes I too agree with Mohan. I also experienced the same. It will be a painful job to identify the legitimate comments from the flood of spam, automatic moderation is almost impossible.

So sad, I started this thread especially for your blog..

Only comments are no follow but links from the guest posts are do follow

The risk of spam can be decreased with the two most awesome plugins : Akismet and Bad Behavior. You will really notice that no spam comments are coming now ...

Thanks Gouri. I can still find a nofollow attribute in the XML. May be it belongs to one of the widgets but can you cheack and confirm if my blog is indeed Dofollow. Any help will be appreciated.

If you see in your comments section, you will find 2 links for each comment: One for the avatar and another for the name field. 'Avatar' is nofollow and the 'name field' is dofollow.

Your blog is a dofollow blog. But the final effect in your comments section is getting like this:

You are asking search engines not to follow a given link. And then, immediately after that, you are asking them to follow it.

So, to bring in consistency, it's better to make the gravatar link also dofollow.

Gouri - I have read somewhere that a blog's google page rank decreases if you make it a do follow blog. Do you know if this is correct?

Sowmya, I don't think we can establish a trend on this. In fact, I have seen few dofollow blogs getting higher PR. I saw:

http://www.petra-weiss.com/ go up from 1 to 3 (still a dofollow blog)

http://chenpn.com/ go up from 3 to 5 (dofollow only in top commentators section)

http://www.kongtechnology.com/ stuck up at 5 (dofollow only in top commentators section)

... & so on.

If properly publicized, dofollow definitely brings in more visitors. But most of the visitors would be interested in using keywords in the comments. Those who don't mind keyword usage in the comments should definitely give it a try. Others can try it provided they have sufficient time for comment moderation (linking to undesirable sites may harm your ranking).

By the way, I see that you are doing extremely well in spiritual blogging. It was nice to see your blogs at a time when I am starting out on this front: Daduram

But at times I get fed up with the spams I get. And many a times people only use keywords in the name field. At times, out of frustration I delete the comments having Keyword instead of name. I mean it looks weird when the name reads like "Holiday in France"! How do I reply to this comment- " Hi Holiday in France, thanks for dropping by"!!

For past couple of months I have been thinking it of making it a no-follow blog, but then I also want to give credit to genuine readers of my blog, so drop the idea everytime.

Maybe I'll come up with Top Commentors widget and make that do-follow. But as of now, my blog is a do-follow blog.

I didn't get you !! It is a do-follow blog. I have intense debate installed on my blog. You can check whether it is do-follow or not by  using the firefox add-on "NoDoFollow".

It's not showing the comments part at all. Once the link are present, we can determine whether they are dofollow or nofollow.

You can compare it with a single post page of other blog using intense debate.

Yes Anshul, Sandeep is right. Your blog is a dofollow blog. The link in the name field depends upon the profile the commentor selects.

Hi Karthik, the name field in comments is missing.. (may be you deleted it by mistake) And the gravatar section is still nofollow..
