Why do so many blogs fade away ?

A few days ago, I was wondering that why do so many blogs fade away?  An article in Times of India relating to 'dead' blogs inspired this thought. Is it because the writers got bored? Can this be the only reason?

I believe that a blog should have a solid base. And that base is the REASON why ones writing it? Many people write blogs only to be 'popular' or attend blog meets and meet interesting people ( rather hit on them :) ).  Only those blogs, however, sustain where the base is the theme itself. Looking at all the popular blogs.. greatbong, flyyoufools , bigfishmag etc... they have a particular theme and they stick to that.  Posting on random topics / day-to-day life is fine as long as it has an underlying theme to help in sustainin the blog.

Anyhow..thats what i believe.....  Comments / brickbats invited :)

So many blogs fade away because it is hard, and getting increasingly harder, to create a successful blog that will generate meaningful traffic. There are simply too many sites out there in the blogosphere. There are too many aspiring writers waiting to be found using a platform that is relatively low cost. It's just a numbers game.

Because most of them are busy promoting rather than maintaining theirs..

It is purely depending upon the blogger. Why do you blog?

To express your ideas?

As a personal public diary?

To help others?

To become popular?

To make money?

If the targets are not achieved, disappointment is natural.. but the winner is who learn the lesson from mistakes

Mr. Sharma:

I was thinking about this a lot in the last two days. Many bloggers who were writing well, had many followers and were quite innovative have suddenly stopped writing. Consistency in something without being paid is a bit difficult, I reckon. Writing is something which is born out of passion and self-motivation. One has to force the consistency as there are times when boredom slowly seeps in.

Many bloggers who started out at the same time as me are missning from the scene. Their profiles are there but the blog has gone.  Maybe they had their fill or topics weren't there. To continue writing of your own accord and find new topics is a great challenge and only some of them can maintain that.

One has to be at it for the love of writing and improvng what one is. Followers, comments, traffic and other things come and go. If we look to all that we just cannot move on. I don't say that comments and traffic  is not needed but looking out for only that is not worth it. I really wish that some interesting bloggers had not closed shop :(

A good topic for dicussion. Smile

Best,

Susan

Yup....  basically its the energy to stick to it only.. but then, i think its also a lack of patience on the blogger's behalf... If one only looks for quick popularity etc , a blog mostly wont sustain.....

@NRI

Nowdays, it truly is bcmng a numbers game.....  Sad as it may seem..

@Susan

I also wish that.. Some of the guys who actually kinda inspired me to get into blogging, hv themselves got bored n shut shop.....
