Child Education: Are we doing enough?

It is suprising not to see any replies even after 14 hours to this post ..Rachana it is a begnine thought... but the issue is at a very large scale... we can go on and on discussing this topic our entire life... or keep posting posting about the issue, I would suggest apart from spreading the awareness through your blog post, just do few steps (that I follow myself)

1) Provide monetary support to an NGO that works in child education. I donate around 5-10K per year

2) Provide voluntary support to such NGO in any manner like teaching or any other work based on your skills.

3) Do not avail services of restaurants where children are employed. Not allow children in your or your friends houses as maids/workers.

4) Try to impart some healthy education to kids in your locality...

It is better to take this baby step than to not do anything.... I guess the slogan "Each one, Teach one" can help in containing this issue.

Rachana, there are a hell a lot of people who will support this cause however you will find little amount of them who would do something constructive. And even a lesser amount of them would continue for a longer duration. Its been a problem with India and other developing countries. Some of my friends find time and teach under privilaged and they are doing it on a regular basis. As far as I have seen there are a lot many women who are seriously spear heading these efforts. Encouragement is hard to come by. There is no rosy picture to post about Indian education. Its those who can afford better education who get it. Others really cant. Its really pity that there much more to be desired and even much more to be delivered. Not only its a government's problem, but a society as a whole. The tax every one is paying in the name of Education cess is going else where. Its the behavioural approach that needs to change. Good luck and thank you for whatever bits you are doing.

I read your poems, and was moved. They are very touching.

There are many organisations working with educating and empowering the girl child, who could use them as part of their campaigns.

There is so much that can be done without even stepping out of one's home, in this regard, starting from ensuring that our maids daughters do not work in our or other people's houses as maids, but get to go to school, to helping them out with their school work, etc.

I've been working as a freelancer in this area for the past six years, and find that the task is monumental, and there can never be too many people involved.

The trick is to just keep going, and to not become cynical and give up. 

We may not realise it, but we are making a difference, and some day, it will be visible.....
