I just reached the target of 50,000 words today.

13 elapsed days. 12 days of actual writing

I had no idea I could do it.. This is the first time I've tried

Wow. That's impressive and inspiring. As I joined Nanowrimo this year in mid November and now I think I should I give a try atleast with just few days in hand. Indie like me won't get that prcision but still a try for change.

I have done it in the past, and even completeted a couple of times. I tried to do it this year, but could not.

Certificate? Is this some kind of a contest? Are publishers involved?

No. It's about rewarding you for sticking with it. It's a certificate that says you hit the target.
