hey i have heard that already Bing (Microsoft's newly developed search engine) is giving fierce competition to google. with yahoo in the same camp, microsoft is sure to eat up at least 30% of the search engine market. and there's also news that bing is more powerful as a search rengine

yes, google may have already decided the combat plan...yahoo was making and breaking plans for much of last year.

but i don't agree when people say that google is unbeatable. see even microsoft used to rule the OS market once. and what now. it is getting tough competition from linux, google's OS. So it is just a matter of time before someone comes and outranks google.

Yea ur right, But Google is having 64% of share and we users were adicted to Google Search Engine. We are not ready to accept new search engines. Like Bing,Wolframalpha. etc.... So I think it may be tough for Microsoft to compete Google Alone but Now Microsoft is mingled with Yahoo. I hope this might disturb Google's Foundation a bit.Yell

It is not addiction...it is just a contemporary phenomena. Let a better option come nd u wl c people flocking to that. Remember yahoomail. It was d only one. Nd then gmail came. Tell me who uses yahoo mail now. Want more examples. I think this is enough

yea you are right!! With this example. But if u consider the same in case of OS Microsoft's Windows XP was Damn Hit, But with that influence Though Vista failedpeople blindly used it and still they are.

I dont understand one thing.. the focus seems to be mainly on the Yahoo + Microsoft merger and the claim seems to be to combat google. I think this is a stupid reason for Microsoft and Yahoo to join hands. I mean if there focus was to provide a better technology or make a major brakthrough its fine.. but the very fact that both companies,  Microsoft and Yahoo have not really utilized social media to explain why this merger is happening tells me they are clueless .. All I can see everywhere is "fight Google to stay alive"

This is bogus! They are trying to reinvent the wheel?? Google came up with something radical. If I was Microsoft or yahoo, I would rather tie up with the niches in the industry and find something new to come up with rather than spend bucket loads of money on a fight. I dont think the online community should even think of accepting this reason because we are happy with google.. so come up with something else !! who wants just another search engine with integrations?? Let the exisitng people take care of that .. Something radically new is what is expected of companies like Microsoft and Yahoo who potentially have of a lot of funds..

Its like two old men hooking up with the same old ideas to impress some investor! completely stupid .. Think MS & Yahoo.. Think dammit!

May be you are right. But you can't say that Microsoft and Yahoo are old people. It's better to call them experienced people. So, If 2 experienced people merge to gether can create more innovative ideas than joining hands with someother company.

Well.. Competition is good .. I dont really use Yahoo for anything anymore .. I am not sure how many do. As for Microsoft I can see their operating systems not losing too much ground but as far as the online initiatives are concerned, I think they lack the vision. I am very sure that they have no clue on what google is coming up with next..

Yea, I accept it. Yahoo completely lost it's groud in every field. SO It offered support to MS, it's a coward step from Yahoo definately. Google is superior in Web World. Now It started to build it's empire in Os world that bothers MS a lot. So they have merged wid Yahoo. You are right it's a stupid useless step.

It's just fear of rejection that Yahoo and Mic are facing. Maybe they can't handel such competition. I mean we are addicted to Google. They brought the internet revolution.

It's not that we are addicted but we as a user always prefer user friendly interface. Bing and Yahoo search were been user friendly but subsequently lost their prominence as the time passes onn.

They understood that they can't occupy the Google's Throne if they are going to fight alone. So these both Giants Microsoft and Yahoo merged and getting ready to start fighting with google.

I can see we've already had a long debate on this topic :) However, I'd like to offer my own views, based on the (rather heated) debate that occured on our own blog. The gist is as follows:1) Chrome failed to make an impact as a browser, and with the numbers that Windows 7 is showing at the moment, combined with Chrome OSs designtated market of netbooks, Chrome OS isn't expected to make a significant dent in the OS market.

2) However, given how the consumer profile of google and gmail users is younger and affluent, gmail is expected to grow at breakneck speed and overtake yahoo as the biggest free mail service in the world in the next couple of years (@Rahi: actually, a lot of people still use yahoo exclusively, but these are the older users and will phase out in another decade)

3) This deal is directed mostly towards the european markets, and shouldn't have a lot of impact on India market as of yet, however, with Windows 7 around the corner and the fact that Bing features heavily in almost all its web based applications and suites, Google might face some stiff competition.

4) IE6 was a lousy browser (but thats just common knowledge anyways Foot in mouth)I believe that this move will give Microsoft and Yahoo the strategic depth to combat Google. This may not necessarily be a bad thing, seeing how heavily Windows 7 features web compatible applications, its clear the Microsoft is steadily shifting to newer perspectives, and hey, no matter who wins or loses between them, in the end, the real winner will always be the consumer, namely us :)

U mentioned Chrome haven't made any impact as browser, But I hope it's not true. Chrome is now said to be the mostly used browser after Mozilla. Now, it is also nearing to mozilla because of its speed and it's special features.

Secondly Microsoft is most bothered about Chrome OS. SO it wants Windows 7 to be the Best. But recently it is explored that Windows 7 Major Bug is found. SO this Windows 7 going to release in November may face some problem because of it's publicity.

But where as in  Chrome OS issue Google haven't officially announced about it's OS. So google will be on safer and peaceful path when compared to Microsoft.

By considering all these Microsoft decided to merge with Yahoo to disturb google's concentration and want to effect the peacefull ness of google. I hope this is a simple nd cheap strategy from microsoft.
