Seeing some "spammy" blogposts on Indivine, with no original content
Maybe "spammy" is the wrong word, but I saw some blog posts that had no content, only useless things like
a) Pictures of actors/actresses taken from Google
b) SMS/Whatsapp Jokes
I hit the Report button, but I still see those posts on Indivine. I am not even sure if I should report this, but the quality of such posts is really poor plus what is the purpose of saving random images in your post - we all have access to Google if we need them, don't we?
Couldnt agree more
Can't really generalize. When I started my blog, I copied my favorite essays and poems on to my blog. Then put up some low resolution pictures taken on mobile phone. I had no clue where to start - had to post something, hadn't I?
So it is fine as long as they are not violating any law as such. If they don't go beyond that, it is their loss. If people choose to waste time like that it is their business.
@TFC, The photos were still clicked by you, so irrespective of the resolution, it is still original content - your blog, your content.
What I am referring to here is different - these are blog posts with images from Google. That's it, nothing original, not even something as mediocre as a 'let's caption this.' Just saved and shared. Who needs that? Plus, there can be copyright violations, you know.
Yes, it's their time and their business, but, I don't know, just seems like waste of blogsphere space, iykwim.
What does "iykwim" mean?
you know what i mean something
and what does "i" stand for in "iykwim"?
It should probably have been "itykwim" => "I think you know what I mean"
if you know what I mean
When a number of big blogs like ScoopWhoop and StoryPick doing the same, you cannot really blame the newbies.
But its Indivine. The collection of submitted blogposts. As far as writing skills are concerned, when I look at the reviews that I've posted before I started my site, I feel very embarrassed that I've been such a noob and not been thorough. It's a good thing because it shows that you've come a long way. Not everybody improves, but there's always scope of improvement. One fine day, this may make them look at the older content and look how far they've come from until now.
Improve? People don't always want to improve. Not everyone wants to improve. Not everyone believes that they can improve. Not everyone believes they need to improve.
Then there's the question of skills. Gladwell's 10,000 hours invested only makes sense if there is skill there to start with. For example, I'm not going to be a rock climber, or an accountant, or any of a number of things, even if I were to invest Gladwell's 10,000 hours.
You can become a Batman, though.
Are you expecting ( gasp...choke ..) some kind of quality criteria to be applied ???
Not again pleeeez
I didn't bring it up. She did. And I was narrowing it to the Home Page. She's broadened scope to include ALL posts on IB. ( I like the way she thinks... )
Not the exact same topic, but we have done some variations on this
Sreesha, Aamir Khan gets huge hits in Google and that works well for SEO. And die hard Aamir Khan fans love to see his crying pics. :) Jokes apart, Blogs are created by many just to drive traffic and make money through ads. IB can check the blog when it is submitted but what if they start this after approval? Well, reporting may be the way to go about it.
Banning based on reporting is a tough call - blogs can be reported for having misogynistic content or spreading hatred against certain communities or deceiving people with factually incorrect information. Also plagiarism, content of pornographic nature. Very time consuming for them to evaluate all these and decide. Comparitively poor quality content is much smaller matter. So in general Indi Admins don't act much on these matters except in cases of plagiarism in contests.
Not exactly practical to deny entry to blogs using subjective criteria such as quality. This Amir Khan pics is specific instance - but difficult to evolve objective criteria on what kind of blogs should not be allowed. Like you say all posts should have text, then what about photo blogs? If you say original photos, how de we check? We know Aamir Khan but what if someone posts pictures of Latin American stars - how would we know if he is a photographer or just copying from net?
The point is fine - but I am saying Indiblogger does not have bandwidth to appoint a person having discretion to do this. And it is difficult to make these things simple and rule based. Current rule is any blog which has 5 posts is accepted. Anybody who creates trouble in forum by spamming or flaming is banned.
But isn't that's why there's a like system? We should have a dislike, but the point is that if people like the post- they will like it. Now if we have dislike system and those who don't like a content can always put up a dislike. If it's plagiarised from other source, one can always report it- or have a thread maintained to report such things.
Well, Sorc - what she is saying is that she has reported such content and there has been no response. I am just conjecturing possible reason why they may not have responded. If she puts on thread also, not sure if anyone from IndiAdmin will have bandwidth to handle.
Yeah, along with the Report button, if there was a provision to add a comment or something (as to why we are reporting it) maybe that would be a little helpful.....? Is there a way to make a request for something like that?
seconded.
