Hi Bloggers!

I have a blog on wordpress , I wanna purchase my own domain name ( without the term 'wordpress' in the url) . I had gone through many related posts but still have one confusion. From My wordpress Dashboard I can get link to register NEW DOMAIN, then further process of payment for .com which cost ($18 + $8 for privacy) yearly fee. If I do so still would not be able to Customize theme/fonts/css or install plugins. Theme customization upgradation has $3 p.m fee. and if we go premium with full access it costs $99 p.a.

Secondly: I heard about BlueHost registration, Should I register through Bluehost? Is it same thing or some extra features

Godaddy : what if I go and select domain name from here and then map to wordpress

My Requirements : Wanna change url from wwwDotblognameDotwordpressDotcom to  wwwDotblognameDotcom ( @CyberKid I have removed links now  Cool ) and wanna get access to install plugins and custom design. What should I go for? and what else is required ?

Thanks

Happy Blogging

I think, first please remove unnecessary links. People can still understand the question without the hyperlinks. Moreover, your requirement url blogname.com and blogname.wordpress.com refer to a facebook page, which, I suppose is completely irrelevant with this question.

I apologize. Deleted unnecessary links. ( This was my first post here and I was in a hurry at that time )

First of all I would congratulate you for taking a great decision. Having free blogs is never a good idea, no one takes free blogs as seriously.

Well Nickk, let me tell you the best way to do so. Purchase the domain name from Godaddy and purchase the hosting from somewhere else. Then redirect your wordpress.com blog to the new domain name. It might cost you somewhere around $16, but then you can have your own self hosted blog at blogname.com and you can do whatever you want to do through it.

A few months back I have written a blog on exactly the same thing, you might read this blog: how to get a customized domain name for wordpress.com blogs? I am sure you will get the idea. Rest you can also contact me for any help in upgrading your blog.

Hi Alok, Thanks for your suggestion. visited your page, nice article. I am still confused, you are suggesting me to purchase domain from Godaddy and hosting from somewhere else. Please elaborate 'Somewhere else' ( sorry if I am acting like a dumb ). Can you provide me some link for the whole purchase.

Thanks once again

I guess I did a mistake by giving the link to my blog, if moderators want to remove it, they can do so. I am sorry if it break any rule somehow...

You can make the change from Godaddy- it will be cheaper and economical. As for your blog stats (like alexa rank) will disappear- that's one loss of taking a new domain. But, have a .com domain is way better than a.x.com . So, Congrats for taking the step. As for me: i haven't taken hosting. My blog is still on blogger with a .com domain.

Hi shivam! As I am new to blogging world and don't wanna indulge myself into any complexity. Can I do the same ? No hosting only Domain from Godaddy.

Thanks for your valuable comment
