Suggest indiblogger on any irking thing one would want removed or want added

Has anyone come across something that irks his mind. Or something he/she feels could be great if we had it here at indiblogger. Say it. Discuss it.

I would like abrupt lock of healthy thread to be done away with. The symbol of lock beside the thread on forum page gives a wrong picture to a onlooker at first glance.

What good this locking does... any idea? I mean except in threads where there're chaos and mud slinging.... why to lock? [Curious smile]

God knows. One thing I understand is to keep fresh topics on top, maybe. Curt locking as mission accomplished and hence hanged to death, but when I surf and see the lock behind a topic, it looks irking.

in the forum currently i see one of my thread locked...i have no issues cos winners of that topic i.e blog reviews was declared in a new thread, which is in important stuff now.....i dunno abt other locked ones though.

you may be generous enough ND, but as an onlooker it irks. Laughing

Want to ADD:-

An option in blogger's dashboard to get a long list of all his/her previous replies/comments in forum. Don't know if the facility is already there but I can see only last 4-5 replies in my dashboard... so may be....

Want to REMOVE:-

Indivine Voting!

This is not there but it is a good option as one can see the list of his all replies under a tab.

I agree... get Indivine voting out of the way. It is an archaic system that tends to make most bloggers untruthful... but then what other way is there to display interaction and buzz on the site to clients and potential clients?

Why not make it mandatory to upload at least two posts every week... OR maintain an average of 10 posts in a month if the weekly condition isn't fulfilled?

mandatory as in??? blogging/posting cant be forced, ain't it..

and what to do with those who don't submit posts? remove them from favicon.icoTongue out

Anything pushed on as mandatory i do not prescribe to it. Yes, locking voting capability to say three posts in a day will inculcate preciousness of their votes and junk voting will be reduced. A page could be made to appear when a person attempts 4th vote that states preciousness of vote system and if one liked the post he should comment on bloggers post and return to vote for that post after 24 hours.
Nandini Deka

there are many bloggers ..most with high rankings too...who never submit to indivine...so making mandatory wont work

I think the Indivine is just fine as it is.

Sometimes I read more than 10 posts on Indivine, and I vote for every post I read. If voting was limited to 3 posts / day I wouldn't know who read my post.

Let me give you an example here: There is one blogger, whose writing I really admire. One on of my short stories, she voted and that made me feel good. What if her quota of 3 posts per day expired and she forgot/didn't care enough to come and vote the next day?

I write one post each week (at times, fail to do that as well), i.e. 4 posts a month, over that, I don't submit my posts on IndiVine as well. How will I cope up with this? :-/ :-O

I don't want to be kicked out of IB as well. Please make me an exception. Tongue out I'll contribute with essays, twice a month. :))

Writing headache transfer program is impossible

It's easy. Write some code, fiddle a lot with it, and then try looking at it after a few days, you'll have a headache. Now pass on this piece of code to someone else, and that person too will have a headache looking at your code, and yours will be gone. (headache transferred):))Cool

Make sure you don't do any commenting in between the lines of codes, to get your work done easily.Tongue out

Vote system on indivine has surely become just a gesture and play-field for many and real votes and readers get dwarfed and drowned in the chaos. It can be improved upon by adding some features. One feature can be,if possible, vote trigger button activates only after one has commented on the post that he has read. Just a wild imagination. If not, then it could be made a simple voting rule that all voters must comment as well and their be a tab no each voter pic. Who if has voted without commenting, can be annulled and removed.

There are hundreds of people browsing and interacting on these forums, day in and day out. We all have diffwrent though processes, mentality and POV's. We can't expect everyone to act reasonably, and at all times, and hence, I support locking of threads, irrespective of whether a query has been resolved or a thread has been locked for flouting forum rules. What needs to be changed is the mentality we have. If we start distinguishing between the reasons for lock, we won't face such issues. Anyways, as per my understanding, locking of forum threads is a mandatory piece of control, or we start facing unnecessarily dirtier forum, with all sorts of self promotion taking place.

locking of forum threads is a mandatory piece of control

Isn't that already exisit !!

confused

We are all here for a reason and may be time pass too is a reason besides trying to excel in blogging, monetising, socialising etc. etc. when one see's a locked thread first thing that comes to mind is the mischief or self promotion activity done by the thread originator and person like me, doesn't open the thread. Later by chance see's considerable replies to it, and opens it and itches to reply to some great comments but is unable to do so. There is a loss of enthusiasm then. Just my pov.

Surprize the bloggers by random feature contributions. Like blog review prize they announced, people participated and were awarded. This is a feature known and expected by people. Now I did not participate during the timeframe, but was awarded prize for previous reviews. I never expected and was surprized.

Yes Please... I too would vote for that Money mouth

thanks hunky,

@ND, may be, but since there will be no stipulation of what category of input they will reward, people will be surprized and overwhelmed at being recepient of a sudden reward. like say, a reply to a query by a fellow blogger is considered an apt one and rewarded at random, or a indispire topic creator is rewarded at random, or a indispire post is rewarded at random, or a indivine post is rewarded. there are many avenues. it will sure be a surprize.

Whatever, the dash would be laden with nice creamy fragrances all over, striving for some surpise nettings.

CK You didn't write a program to continuously download IT talks? Innocent

CyberKID

no r. I didn't write one to continuously do that. It needed a lot of system resources, and can't work now, since the archives are gone. It opened the pages, using the url of archives, appending the page number at the end and grabbed the contents from that page. It needed to be run manually and wasn't an Autonomus IndiChat Downloader that would continue from the page it last downloaded the content, appending to the already downloaded content, as I didn't ever run it to download it all, so, didn't feel the need to.

Besides my reply some place else on this thread, I have a suggestion...

If we vote OUT Indivine likes, what other activity can be introduced to project Indiblogger to clients?

Well, let's continue with Indivine 'likes' but add a rider to them. Each 'like' needs to be accompanied by at least 2 lines of observation/analysis/criticism of the post that one is talking about. AND a person may not be allowed more than 5 Indivine likes_comments per day.

What do you say?

I feel addition of lines a blogger loves at his blog. How he yearns for a nice pat on the back.

Not sure if this is already a feature, but I'd like to be able to report abuse on specific emails/messages. What do you guys do when someone is sending abusive messages/jokes and you want to report them to the moderators? Blocking a person does not report the incident to Indiblogger, does it?

You can email at indi@indiblogger.in stating the happening with attachments of emails received, if they are from an indiblogger. I think proper action will surely be taken.
Ranjith
from hyderabad

IndiMails or normal mails? If they are IndiMails, you can remove that person from your network (after which he/she won't be able to send you any messages) and also report to Renie.

If they are normals mails, then I wonder if Renie can help. It has to be taken up with the cyber police (or whatever they are called). Sealed (which I would never do or recommend Sealed) Or add that person to your blocked emails list and used the report option.

CyberKID
from India

Blocking is always not the best of options. If it's being done on indimail, report to the IndiAdmins, and then get the person's details from them, if possible, and then lodge a formal complaint with your city's Police Cyber cell. Even on normal mail, you should try lodging an FIR with the cyber cell. Abusive/indecent behaviour shouldn't be ignored, and a befitting reply is a must.
