Can a blogger run out of space someday in blogspot? :-/
Hello Friends!
I almost always accompany my posts with single or multiple photographs (my copyrights off course). For doing such I upload it directly through blogger tool. Suddenly this scary thought passed me like a lightning- can I ever run out of space in blogger? I mean does blogger/blogspot/google allot some predefined space for uploading images? If so, what should be the safe way for a blogger who posts too many photographs like me? [Sigh]
This is what I always say as the biggest mistake made by any blogger. When you are uploading any posts or pictures to a server on which you don't have any control, you are actually giving all the rights of that picture and content to them only. They can even delete it without even giving you time to take backup. On one fine morning you might get a love letter from Blogger, saying that you violated blah blah things and your blog has been removed. What will you do after receiving such love letters?
This is the reason why I always suggest anyone to have self hosted blog only, there they could have the command over space, content, pictures, and all other things related with your blog. No one can in normal case touch your content.
Alok, do you have any such bitter experience where a blog was deleted by google where the blogger had posted non-pornographic materials? [worried]
AS dont pout Google deletes the blog only if there is serious violation of policies. Pro wp chaps always give this justification for moving to self hosted blogs but I think its a empty threat. Also you can download your entire blog /theme /template or just articles from blogger any time (time to raise the glasses)
Ahhh relieved.............................
Relieving on indi is not good
Well AS, nothing as such that Google will close any site, but then when u r sharing image on eavh post then there is no point in leaving your hard work to some one else hand. Do tell me if a person can leave his gold ornaments to an unknown's hand?
Thats why I suggest it...
Alok, is that not applicable to WordPress or self hosted blogs, as you are suggesting? Or do the Hosting Service Provider give a guarantee, in writing that they won't delete your data, even, if you violate their terms of service? Or host illegal stuff from their hosting service? If You're thinking so, please read this clause from GoDaddy's TOS, that everyone must follow:
Go Daddy generally does not pre-screen User Content (whether posted to a website hosted by Go Daddy or posted to this Site). However, Go Daddy reserves the right (but undertakes no duty) to do so and decide whether any item of User Content is appropriate and/or complies with this Agreement. Go Daddy may remove any item of User Content (whether posted to a website hosted by Go Daddy or posted to this Site) and/or terminate a User’s access to this Site or the Services found at this Site for posting or publishing any material in violation of this Agreement, or for otherwise violating this Agreement (as determined by Go Daddy in its sole and absolute discretion), at any time and without prior notice. And as far as I know, Google also follows more or less the same policy when hosting content on their servers is concerned.
Blogger Content Policy
Blogger is a free service for communication, self-expression and freedom of speech. We believe Blogger increases the availability of information, encourages healthy debate, and makes possible new connections between people.
We respect our users' ownership of and responsibility for the content they choose to share. It is our belief that censoring this content is contrary to a service that bases itself on freedom of expression.
In order to uphold these values, we need to curb abuses that threaten our ability to provide this service and the freedom of expression it encourages. As a result, there are some boundaries on the type of content that can be hosted with Blogger. The boundaries we've defined are those that both comply with legal requirements and that serve to enhance the service as a whole.
Content BoundariesOur content policies play an important role in maintaining a positive experience for you, the users. Please respect these guidelines. From time to time, we may change our content policies so please check back here. Also, please note that when applying the policies below, we may make exceptions based on artistic, educational, documentary, or scientific considerations or where there are other substantial benefits to the public from not taking action on the content.
Adult Content: We do allow adult content on Blogger, including images or videos that contain nudity or sexual activity. But, please mark your blog as 'adult' in your Blogger settings. Otherwise, we may put it behind a 'mature content' interstitial.
There are some exceptions to our adult content policy:
- Do not use Blogger as a way to make money on adult content. For example, don't create blogs that contain ads or links to commercial porn sites.
- We do not allow non-consensual or illegal sexual content, including image, video or textual content that depicts or encourages rape, incest, bestiality, or necrophilia.
Child safety: We have a zero tolerance policy towards content that exploits children. Some examples of this include:
- Child sexual abuse imagery: We will terminate the accounts of any user we find publishing or distributing child sexual abuse imagery. We will also report that user to law enforcement.
- Pedophilia: We do not allow content that encourages or promotes sexual attraction towards children. For example, do not create blogs with galleries of images of children where the collection of images or text accompanying the images is sexually suggestive.
Hate Speech: Our products are platforms for free expression. But we don't support content that promotes or condones violence against individuals or groups based on race or ethnic origin, religion, disability, gender, age, nationality, veteran status, or sexual orientation/gender identity, or whose primary purpose is inciting hatred on the basis of these core characteristics. This can be a delicate balancing act, but if the primary purpose is to attack a protected group, the content crosses the line.
Crude Content: Don't post content just to be shocking or graphic. For example, collections of close-up images of gunshot wounds or accident scenes without additional context or commentary would violate this policy.
Violence: Don't threaten other people on your blog. For example, don't post death threats against another person or group of people and don't post content encouraging your readers to take violent action against another person or group of people.
Harassment: Do not harass or bully others. Anyone using Blogger to harass or bully may have the offending content removed or be permanently banned from the site. Online harassment is also illegal in many places and can have serious offline consequences.
Copyright: It is our policy to respond to clear notices of alleged copyright infringement. More information about our copyright procedures can be found here. Also, please don't provide links to sites where your readers can obtain unauthorized downloads of other people's content.
Personal and confidential information: It's not ok to publish another person's personal and confidential information. For example, don't post someone else's credit card numbers, Social Security numbers, unlisted phone numbers, and driver's license numbers. Also, please keep in mind that in most cases, information that is already available elsewhere on the Internet or in public records is not considered to be private or confidential under our policies.
Impersonating others: Please don't mislead or confuse readers by pretending to be someone else or pretending to represent an organization when you don't. We're not saying you can't publish parody or satire - just avoid content that is likely to mislead readers about your true identity.
Illegal activities: Do not use Blogger to engage in illegal activities or to promote dangerous and illegal activities. For example, don't author a blog encouraging people to drink and drive. Please also do not use Blogger to sell or promote regulated or illegal drugs. Otherwise, we may delete your content. Also, in serious cases such as those involving the abuse of children, we may report you to the appropriate authorities.
Spam: Spam takes several forms in Blogger, all of which can result in deletion of your account or blog. Some examples include creating blogs designed to drive traffic to your site or to move it up in search listings, posting comments on other people's blogs just to promote your site or product, and scraping existing content from other sources for the primary purpose of generating revenue or other personal gains.
Malware and viruses: Do not create blogs that transmit viruses, cause pop-ups, attempt to install software without the reader's consent, or otherwise impact readers with malicious code. This is strictly forbidden on Blogger.
Enforcement of Blogger's Content PolicyIf you encounter a blog that you believe violates our content policies, please report it to us using the 'Report Abuse' link located at the top of each blog under the 'More' dropdown (Note: If the blog owner has hidden this link, you can still Report Abuse in the Blogger Help Center).
Our team reviews these flags for policy violations. If the blog does not violate our policies, we will not take any action against the blog or blog owner. If we find that a blog does violate our content policies, we take one or more of the following actions based on the severity of the violation:
- Put the blog behind a 'mature content' interstitial
- Put the blog behind an interstitial where only the blog author can access the content
- Delete the offending content, blog post or blog
- Disable the author's access to his/her Blogger account
- Disable the author's access to his/her Google account
- Report the user to law enforcement
Alok, then what about the copyright ugly watermark that I attach? [grin]
Ajeet I always knew you were in some software company... you manage legal affairs there? [Oh never knew it wala blank smile]
Anunoy, first half of your guess is right, second half is, unfortunately, not.
And Ranjith, I did read it all to find out, what actually was relevant to this thread and chopped out some irrelevant stuff, from that GoDaddy User Agreement, blogger's was, however, pretty straightforward, so, didn't need any chopping. BTW, I'm good at chopping.
Me and my bad guesses [Sigh]......
Anunoy, in case if you want to increase your google drive storage to 50GB for free, you can opt for any moto smartphone, but that won't suffice as it is valid for 2 years only, which means after 2 years you will have to pay for the additional storage you are using except default value of 15GB. So, it would be better to keep posting your images via blogger untill and unless its 15GB is occupied and then later move on to self hosted domain, there won't be any matter of storage for images and as @Hunky said, bandwidth becomes major issue then.
By the way, there are free Image hosting sites also, but the problem there becomes about the CopyRight and reliability of the data stored !!! How many cloud storage, like Google Drive / Live supports direct host linking ??
Since they are free one can keep on opening accounts and use multiple accounts to host the images free, given they support hot linking..
Thanks Janak and Hunky.... I'll enjoy my 15 GB for some another 100 years [wink]
Try not to forget Flickr, which gives you 1TB (yes 1000GB) of free storage space, that would take more than 15 years, if you upload 50 photos @ 12mp daily
Ajeet you beat Shakuntla devi!!!
Shakuntala Devi (November 4, 1929 – April 21, 2013) was an Indian writer and mental calculator, popularly known as the "human computer". A child prodigy
See, this is the best part of Indibloggers! We google out and copy-paste our hunt for the sake of another fellow Indiblogger [grin]
Or think it this way- IB is indirectly advertising google... smartest way known to bloggerkind!!!
Offcourse... like Gods need fruits [simple]
For us, who are self hosted, for them, storage is never an issue, rather bandwidth becomes issue.. Major issue..
You can use this link also https://www.google.com/settings/datatools
Maine kya Swahili bola
There is also a separate Google Accounts page available which gives you details of everything you do on Google. I think you have to sign up for that. It gives you a manage button also to interconnect all your google thingy. If you want I will send you the link
Rajni, see VP got a magic box [grin]
Ok it has that button But Ranjith do you get monthly Activity report from Google ? I get the same
AS go to the bottom of your gmail screen you will see the space percent used by you http://prntscr.com/47to8c Also press on manage to check other uses
It says- "You are currently using 476 MB (3%) of your 15360 MB"
but is it not for gmail solely? [smile]
There's no such option as "Manage".... may be due to the weird fact that I'm a loyal admirer of 'basic html' version of gmail???
AS Yes
use this link also https://www.google.com/settings/datatools
Nohh dude it is lying [phew...]
Storage Google Drive storage Using 0.46 GB of 15 GB (3%) Drive 0 GB Gmail 0.46 GB Google+ Photos 0 GB Because there'll be at least 150-200 MB photos posted in my blogspot till date.... Sigh!
The res may be low that is why the photos are not counted broda You need to sign up for R's blogging blog as his first and only student
PS Blogger photos are counted as G+ photos
Other than ALHT and JWU, rajni got a 3rd blog too? [what!!!]
yes I make it a point to keep the filesize of a pic within 250 KB or dimension not more than 1200*800 [grinnn]
He hopes to open 50 blogs by the time he is 50 years old
only student?
AS Yes... and a fourth one also... fifth one to be lunched soon
Rajni taking the smart way to richness [thumbs up dude]
Thanks VP and Rajni... read both of your clues....
I too have G+ profile... does that mean I have 15 gb to play with? Or do I have to integrate my blogger account with g+ to get that extra 14gb??
And do you have any idea how can I check "space consumed" from my 1GB quota?
I believe it's connected with your gmail account, as is clear from that quoted text. So, irrespective of the usage, I think all google's services consume the space associated with that particular gmail account. So, irrespective of whether your blogger account is synced with your G+ profile, you still get that space, because your blogger account is linked with the gmail account.
And 15 GB is quite a lot of space for anyone to fill up. So, don't worry about that, you're not going to fill up that space anytime soon
Yes bro I understand that 15 GB is way too much for my need.... I was scared thinking it might be just 1 GB [smile]
How come you find everything so funny little boy? [this' too much dude!]
I find almost everything you say funny. ( may be because of those text smileys in square brackets )
Rajni doesn't even give me due respect of being a fellow member... why it's me... why?... I too have right to be taken in a non-funny way..................................................... [incessant cry]
Yes of course broda. Everything in the world runs out of time including you and me The blogger + G+ + Gmail give you 15 GB space after that you have to buy space from Google. However if you upload images within some specific sizes they are not counted (dunno know this; read it somewhere)
For a photoblogger after 15GB use you can buy space from Google.
Hope this solves your problem about the life and death of a blog (wink)
However if you upload images within some specific sizes they are not counted (dunno know this; read it somewhere)
I too remember reading something like that - Even if you run of out of space, you can still upload images but their resolution will be reduced while saving.
But now, I find it different
Number of Pictures: Up to 1 GB of total storage, shared with Picasa Web. If you've upgraded to Google+, your photos will be stored in Google+ Photos, where you have 15GB of storage space shared with Gmail and Drive.
Maine kya likha ??? Farsi
so how many posts we can write until free space runs out?
Even if you keep typing every second for the rest of your life, you won't run out of free space
It is not text but multimedia contents which eat up the space....
Oh sorry... doesn't she use photos? [well....]
i hotlink pics/videos
Hotlink mane? [explorer's wide open eyes]
She uploads iamges to imagur and pastes them in her blog post. This is called hotlinking - inserting image directly into the post instaed of giving a link to it ( linking)
Oh... means uploading somewhere and using that image link in <img src=""> ?
