How to stop adult websites from visiting my blog?

Sign up for Toolator. Toolator is a free program that allows you to block up to three IP addresses from accessing your Blogger site. You'll need to provide Toolator with the IP address you wish to block.

You can find the offensive sites ip address and copy it on toolator, it is free. You can paste the code toolator gives you in footer of your blog.

If it blocks only 3 IPs, it will be useless. Right now I am getting regular visits for 4-5 websites.

You can google free ip blocking tools providers.  this toolator site has premium paid paid version for many blocks.

Wordpress.com attracts a lot of adult websites. Try to check the keyword used/accessed by the website to visit your website. Change it to some other alternative word. This happens when you scribble romantic write-ups. Ignore them completely. Do not visit them back because they are the source of virus. :)

Changing words to avoid these IPs is not possible But yes, right now it seems I can't do anything but ignore them.

Yeah, I know they carry virus and that's why I scared of their viruses getting transferred to my blog

don't know whether this is true, but, I don't think your blog can get infected by viruses from such links. Though, your computer may, but, your blog can't unless, you explicitly insert some code/widget/gadget in it.

Yaay, Pankti has now really become famous, not just among the peacocks in her society, but elsewhere too. On a serious note, what's the harm in letting these sites visit your blog? Afterall, these are harmless referrar spam visits only na? Moreover, no one except you knows which these sites do visit your blog, unless you create a full fledged thread on a forum like this. You know what to do when such referrar spam visits come to your site/blog, then, why worry. Just do as you would have ideally done in a situation of referral spam visits.

CK, I ignore referral spam visits. I started worrying only when adult websites started visiting my blog. As I said before, I was scared about my blog getting infected by the viruses that websites generally carry. But now as you guys say my blog can't get virus from those visits, it's cool.

But I did do some research and apparently it does not affect your blog.  The term is referrer spam. Don't click on the links, that is the only reason it exists is to get you to click on the links. The Blogger stat system will eventually recognize it as spam and will remove the links and visits from your stats. Eventually.  One good thing is that only you can see your stats.

Yeah, tell me about it. It was such an awkward situation. Thankfully my neighbors had gone for lunch when I opened those links. Phew....

Dont worry FP nothing of that sort will happen.  Office PCs normally dont save History and the adult sites visiting your sites are also bots so no worries on that account.  Just dont click them anymore ok

FP - this is referrer spam. Meaning of Referer Spam from Wikipedia.

Referer spam (also known as log spam or referer bombing) is a kind of spamdexing (spamming aimed at search engines). The technique involves making repeated web site requests using a fake referer URL that points to the site the spammer wishes to advertise.[2] Sites that publicize their access logs, including referer statistics, will then inadvertently link back to the spammer's site. These links will be indexed by search engines as they crawl the access logs.

Let me explain what this means. 

If I am visiting a link (a.html) on your blog from another blog/site (b.html), system reads it as the a.html is being referred by the b.html page from another blog/website.

So if you publishing your referers publicly (using services like Feedjit) which display the location and the referer link, your page becomes vulnerable to attacks.

The spammer plays smart and knows that if he clicks on a link to your blog from another page, your system will publicly display the link he wants to spam. So he/she adds your blog link among the content on the page (link) he inteneds to spam - then clicks on your link from that page (he/she probably removes the link immediately after that). 

This link then appears on your list of referers listed publicly. Google scans your website and finds links to this page. If this page is detected by Google as blacklisted, your site is penalised to publish the link and your rankings get affected. IF not, your visitors will click on the link and end up on the wrong page at the wrong time (porn) or gets his computer infected. A perfect Loss-Loss situation for you/your readers and Win-Win for the spammer.

I used to have Feedjit on my blog but removed as I started seeing numerous links that were more or less infected (could cause damange) or spam. 

What I wrote about is a simplified version to help understand. These spammers use automated tools that generate fake referrers. 

Thanks Hemal. Got it. Yes, I had Feedjit but I removed it last week just because I didn't like the amount of space it was taking on my blog page. Good riddance I would say now. Once again thanks for explaining.

I guess everybody has explained what is happening already. In case you want to understand why this is happening then check this video by Matt Cutts , Head of Webspam at Google , http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QufRT-Gd-UI . As he explains , these are just automated scripts at play , so you should ignore them. In reality it is very difficult for Google to stop these visits because there is no clear demarcation between a spam visit or a real users visit. That is why Blogger stats are not able to filter these out

If you want to get rid of them, then I suggest you switch to using Google Analytics. There are three main reasons behind them.

Firstly Blogger stats are recorded at the server side and Google Analytics Stats are records at the client side (via a JavaScript code you insert). The chances of an automated script having JavaScript support is fairly less. So most of these visits will not appear in Google Analytics (GA)

Secondly even if the spammer is very clever and the visit gets recorded by GA, then you can use Filters in Google Analytics to mark these referral sources , so that they don't get counted in the total. 

Thirdly , It is really easy to install GA on a Blogger blog , with Blogger supporting it in its dashboard itself (In Settings > Others > Google Analytics > Analytics Web Property ID ). You will just need to register a account and then add the ID in the field mentioned above. (As you use a default Blogger Template , you will not require to do changes in the template)

Currently if you search on Twitter or Forums, this is a widely reported issue . Spammers are are targeting a lot of people with Blogger blogs (Mainly to drive traffic to these sites)

On a Lighter Note, I think that Pageviews are just for satisfaction , a blogs health can't be judged just based on the number of visit it gets. Its the community around the blog that matters much more

The only reason I think people recommend WordPress is because they get commissions everytime people buy   hosting or themes via their referral link 

actually the wordpress which many use is wordpress.com. It lacks many things. The other one, wordpress.ORG is a self hosted. It lets us do much more than blogspot and wordpress.com. You can have thousands of themes for free, useful plugins(those also free) for enhancing power of website and the best thing is- SEO is easiest to do!

@pragya, no. People recommend wordpress because they are having much better experience there. Easy to maintain and get ranked. Plus, thousand of free plugins to make blog really attractive for readers as well as search engines

if themes and plugins ( whatever that means ) are what makes wordpress awesome..then i dont think i'm missing anything...i have no interest in changing my theme ever...its a classic

@Na De, plugins are those elements that can do so much for your sites including blocking spam, speeding up site load, finding traffic, increasing sharabity, look and much more! PLus, what I liked while working on wordpress is- SEO friendly approach. My blog is too new, and with a lil strategy, I am getting ranked on frst results in Google. All because of wordpress, I must say.

hmm...i think getting ranked on google searches matters with niche of the blog....it wont help personal/literary bloggers much anyways...people hardly google poem /stories/55 fictions etc 

Mine is multi niche blog. And almost no back links! Many good websites(including official websites) out there already wrote about same topic, still good on page SEO(means SEO done within article itself) out-ranked them(still there is no guarentee which would rank and which wont). Well yeah, people normally dont search personal blogs, still you may do little tricks to increase page views.

from what i understand if you write current topics on anything be it politics/techno/products/travel/finance etc its gonna get you good ranking,...cos they are highly searched........................as far as literary/personal blogs are concerned theres no way they'll get views from google...they can only engage with like-minded bloggers with simlar interests.

@Abhishek As the recent updates to Google's search algorithms are indicating , it has become difficult to game the system now. So SEO is no "magic bullet" to solve the problems of search engine rankings . The position of a result in a search depends on more than 200+ factors (atleast in case of google )

The only sure way to get good ranking is write unique content and keep the community around the blog engaged

As far simple stuff goes , you can easily add Meta descriptions , Open Graph Meta tags , Twitter Cards , Rich Pins , 301/302 Redirects in a Blogger blog

About the plugins , for server side stuff I think nobody can match the reliability of Google Data Centers and they are already optimized to the limit (Blogger blogs are by default Gzipped ). For plugins affecting the Front-end side , I think its only matter of time , as everything is achievable via JavaScript and Blogger also provides a JSON API 

If you still disagree , Can you share any specific things , then I would be able to answer better 

actually, your point about poetry/personal blog is correct. But for niche blogs, merely writing about a current topic/highly searched topic wont do good. Because you have to compete with the sites which are already too good in google's eyes to rank yours higher than them. A news from NDTV's website will appear on google search on same time as published, while a small blog might take hours or days to get indexed(leave ranking) in google for same topic! Many factors determine rank na..

@pragya, of course there are MANY factors that help in getting ranked, still there are a few basic ones which can improve the blog. And about blogger, I have seen many popular blogs getting deleted by google on grounds of spamming though those blogs never did it and were credible and reputed. Plus we can not deny the importance and usefullness of plugins in wordpress sites.. and of course, nothing can beat the content. That is the most important thing.

For rankings , as I said , the basics ones are available in Blogger as well (Meta Descriptions , 301/302 redirects , Custom Robots header tags ). Which specify ones are you referring to ? Please can you share 

For things regarding deletion of blogs , The Blogger Content Policy ( http://www.blogger.com/content.g ) states very clearly which kinds of blogs are allowed on Blogger. And yes there are some cases in which the blogs do get flagged and removed , in those cases you can always appeal in Blogger Forum. Can you share any names whose blogs were deleted ?

I think its a hoax if you believe your WP site will never be taken down or deleted. For example if you post stuff thats not liked by governements , then there is likely higher chance that your hosting provider will budge under the pressure rather than Google (You can always check http://www.google.com/transparencyreport/ for info). If you post normal stuff , then there would be no problems either on Blogger or WP

For popular blogs , the most famous one that I know on Blogger platform is SpoilerTV , it gets around 60 Million visits a year and it has been functioning normally for the past 7 years. Getting that level of traffic on a self-hosted WP blog , would be really expensive in terms of Server costs. Also till last year Twitter's official blog ( blog.twitter.com ) was on Blogger platform , till they moved to a custom platform.

I agree plugins makes stuff easier by letting you make changes via a Grpahical interface, as I said before , things are changing now , for example check this Blogger templates  http://geekpressdemo.blogspot.com/ . There is just a lack of developers in Blogger community 

and yes content is what matters that most , you can get the best theme , the most reliable hosting , optimize the on-page SEO , But if there is no contetnt , then its all useless

Well, I agree blogger is good as far as SEO is concerned because it is a product of google itself. This is turning out to be a debate on blogger vs wordpress.. :D Both are awesome, both have big sites running on them. The site I mentioned that was closed suddenly by blogger was wwwdotmtukhabardotcom. It was a very popular site among UPTU students. Well when we talk about big sites, wpbegineerdotcom, seomozdotcom etc are superpopular sites that run on wordpress. Had they been running on blogger, the site owners had not to pay for hosting.. I admit wordpress might be expensive.

But as far as I have used wordpress, I feel it quite interesting and easy, plus easy to handle and optimize content. So I recommend same for every beginner. Both bloggger and wordpress are good, depends on users will what he opts. :) Ultimately, it is the content that is going to matter most.

I agree with Prayag on the blogger issue.  Its just too awesome. WP is geeky and nerdy I switched over from blogger to wp to blogger again as WP was not my cuppa tea.   One day I got 250 visitors on the site at the same time and WP and the host simply crashed for 3 whole days.  Google can take 100 times visitors easily as Googles hosts the best servers in the world and nothing can beat that.  As far as plugin are concerned most plugins are available in form of html widgets(the once that are necessary are)

Blogspot is cool...google will never die
