Sudden PageHit explosion yesterday! What can be the reason guys?
Hi friends,
just today I came to know (quite shocking!!!) that my yesterdays pagehits for two blogs are 2724 and 2311 respectively, when normally my average pagehits for each blog range from 150-200 per day! Can you think of any possible reason for this explosive hits? To let you know, I didn't subscribe to any service or posted any new posts lately which can participate in such radical blog-invasion... please throw some light guys...
i told these from my blogger dashboard stats only!
certainly i can't expect you to be a magician... just thought there must be few co-sufferers in the blogosphere...
hmmm right
Happened with me once...no reason, probably some referrel type hits, will be for a day or so...Ranjith may enlighten us....
hmmm let's see what rajni says...
'forum hero' RAJNI!!!
We shud christen "Forum Hero" to "Forum God" for Rajni tee hee
Why does these things never happen with me?
it's a fruitless traffic Pankti....it won't benefit you in any sense!
Why do you want those things to happen to you?
Do you want to switch from Blogger Stats to some other thing?
Your mysore post has gone viral AS
- Take a look at your 'Traffic Sources' on your blogger dashboard and decide for yourself if its legitimate traffic or referral-spam.
- Switch to Google Analytics - It gives you a much better picture of your stats and doesn't track spam traffic.
- Probably, some fake-referral site is using the IndiBlogger blogs directory. Few others have been complaining of it.
- I too receive a lot of those spam hits. So, I never use Blogger stats.
thanks for these useful tips!
@OP: Based on the page (post) count of one of your blogs, I believe the sudden explosive pageviews might be there from Mountainview, California (i.e. Google bots). I've seen a lot of these visits on my blog, numbering <150 or such in a day, (take into consideration my blog's age is just around 4 months, with around 30 posts, and a normal 30-45 pageviews per day), and the biggest thing is that blogger analytics doesn't show it in demographics. What you'll see is just a spike in your otherwise plain graph. The reason I know this is because I'm using Feedjit's Live Traffic Feed, which shows the visits from Mountainview, California, which does show the time of the visit, which when matched with blogger analytics info confirms to be generated from Google.
May be I'm wrong, but, this is what I've known and experienced, and thus wanted to share with you.
As far as I know, Blogger excludes known bots ( Google Bot, Bing Bot etc ) from the stats.
I believe I've seen such visits originating in most probably from Mountain View, California, but, this doesn't gets mention in details like Traffic Sources, or Audience, but, the graph does show an abrupt spike in visits.
thanks dear friends for your valuable views...
I think sources are most important, As once my blog got such traffic bomb from pornographic sites (on which I never clicked :-P).. I will advice you to check for the same as it affects your blog's reputation..!!
Without clicking, how did you find out that it is a pornographic site?
@AS: thanks for raising this issue, i have been tackling this on a daily basis now with no successRoj ka i have 10 - 15 hits from SPAM sites, i dunno how to stop them :(
You are lucky - receiving just 10-15 spam hits. I receive around 100 - too much nuisance and makes my blogger stats unusable.
what's bad in that.... a big blogger stat, although you know it is wrong, adds up to the first impression of your blog before new visitors... don't disregard free things!
True, Anunoy. Ultimately, in today's world everything is about image management. You know the hiked up stats are because of the spam. But your new reader doesn't. Isn't that what matters. There is this fellow in office who waxes eloquent about my writing to every new person in office. I know this fellow has not even read one post from my blog. But the people listening to him do not and some of them end up even visiting my blog.
Those page views add up to the first impression only if you have that blogger stats gadget added to your sidebar.
I wouldn't have complained if they gave me free chocolates instead of free visits.
ya there shud be freebies instead of visits.
Sahi hai TF :) My colleagues do know about my blog, visit (and even read) often...but don't follow it officially...so no Free ka advertisements for me
@Ranjith - I too would have wished for chocolates in stead of Spam Hits...
Lucifer I knew you'd agree!
and Rajni and Snuffles, value your teeth till you have them... i mean that's what i'm doing...
Ok AS, We'll send you [ high fibre ] biscuits instead of chocolates.
Well, what are these hits from .ru domains? Do they affect ranking -negatively/positively- anyway?
I receive spam traffic from .ru domains also.
They don't affect ranking. If you are hosting your site on your own server ( like self hosted wordpress ), then they increase the load on your server.
I've read yesterday that a person redirected the spam traffic to the original ( spam ) person's blog increasing the load on the spammer's server.
no idea... just my counter looks good! enjoying alexa... may be PR too...
@Ranjith That't the one reason, besides free ka space, I am still hosting and will be hosting it on Blogger...
