Hey, I have launched my tech blog just a few days back, and I think I shouldn't take much time to purchase a custom domain for it...so I am looking forward to register a domain ASAP... I wanna use Paypal for payment procedure, coz I don't really like Google Checkout which I think is the only available payment option if I try to buy the domain from the blogger dashboard itself... It will be much more helpful if Ranjith or Hunky can provide me a step by step guide on how to set it up properly after purchasing the domain for blogger (It will save my time :-P). I also wanna know which one is the best and cheap too...I'm looking forward to a .org domain...it'll be good if anyone can provide the rates too... Please help...

Regarding setup of the domain name, Google already has good documentation so check it out here, https://support.google.com/blogger/answer/58317?hl=en

now Godaddy and BigRock and most of the other services do accept paypal so that wont be any major issue either.

coming to extension, bro, better you first find a very good TLD rather bothering about extension since it doesn't make any sense to save a few bucks for a lame TLD in favor of a specific extension.

So it would be better if you first select a good TLD first.. by the way, for which blog you would require the TLD ??

Buying the domain

First you register with Godaddy, BigRock or such service and then put in your domain name (which you have already searched and found to be available) and go for the registration !!! It would be a pretty straight forward process

Tongue out

Regarding rates

Search Google for coupon codes for Godaddy and BigRock as those coupon codes can give so some discount in new registration, ranging from 10% to few bucks too :D

I want to purchase domain for the tech news blog 'TechStake'...actually .org is the available one as .com is already taken ;-( but .org is good too...by the way I heard that if I buy it from blogger then blogger will set up all the redirections...but as you are suggesting to buy it from the host itself, how would I set up my redirection and all those CNANE records? (I dnt wanna Google it, am too lazy bro :-P)....by the way do I need to create separate account for the new domain in the GWT and Feedburner??

I have registered the domain from go daddy...I have also set up the DNS server... CNAME and A records are being modified too...but blogger isn't verifying it... I think DNS change needs time to be active....isnt it? Any experience on how long does it take? (TTL is showing 1 hour)
Ranjith

The time taken varies. For me, I think it took less than 12 hours.

You can check your DNS propagation here.

Did you set everything correctly. I'm receiving a 404 error. Innocent

I hope so...I entered my domain to the site that u have mentioned in ur 2nd last post..and green ticks are available...actually when I tried to redirect my blogger domain to custom domain blogger was showing error..it said to update my CNAME records in my DNS server (which I did)..but I can't save that in my blogger account...what do u type to get the 404 error?
Ranjith

http://techstake.org/ is giving 404 error.

but I can't save that in my blogger account

All that you enter in your blogger account is the new custom domain name. Nothing else.

I signed in to my blogger account..and click add a custom domain, then I switched to advance settings..then I entered my custom domain and hit save but it didnt save..else it was showing an error message that it could not able to verify it...under that an instrctn message was showing which contained CNAME records...then I logged in to my account in Go daddy..went to domain manager and added the CName records...I returned to my blogger account and tried to hit save again..but it didnt save...anything wrong from my side?

From this page :

Update your Blogger settings

Before you move onto this step, wait about an hour for your DNS settings to activate. If you attempt to change the publishing settings before the DNS changes activate, then we'll let you know with a warning message.

So, may be you'll have to wait for some time.

I was thinking the same thing..that's why I asked k generally how much time it takes?
Hunky @ NexGenBikes.com

@Aditya..

As per ICANN, ISP and DNS services operators has 72 hours for the job, some are fast, some are very slow (state owned BSNL, Wink) in the process..

As for your domain, I can view your website (using Open DNS)..

Aditya was talking about using a custom domain for his blog and not about hosting. So, your link here is irrelevant.
