I just wanted to know if, even if an Indian national  gets a citizenship from any other country.. where would his/her heart lie.. I mean can you truly sing another national anthem with the same intensity and passion? or can the roots be completely broken?

I have observed that they can be broken even with a green card.

We had a independence day or republic day celebration at a software company started and managed by NRIs. the flag hoisting was not organised properly and the flag was stuck half way up the pole.

The Management looked 'disgusted' and 'bored'.

One less educated tea-wallah observing the flag half stuck suddenly moved forward, climbed up that rickety wooden pole and made sure that the flag flew full mast much to the clapping and cheering of all the Indian crowd.

The NRIs still maintained their disdain. One of them even told me that nationalism was a form of vanity and ego.

I can never forget that day.

Of course one swallow a summer does not make, so there may be many patriots who are NRIs or who have dual citizenship. I have not met many such...

I have met people who are from India and have taken citizenship of other countries. They seem to have done it either out of necessity or out of convenience.  So, feelings about their home country may or may not mean much to them. I think it depends on the individual.

Speaking for myself, I have been outside India for few years now, and have never felt more attached to India. Citizenship of India to me, means a lot. I am one of those individuals who took it for granted while I lived in India, and value it more while I am away.
