Your Posts in Draft
How often do you click on the drafts section in your dashboard?
I do it often. Whenever I am free, I pen down my articles and save it for future use. In this way, even if I am travelling or busy and unable to write something, I can still ensure my blog keeps running. As on today, I have a total of 21 drafts out of which only 3 are usable and the rest of them are complete trash!
What about you? Do you have a knack of keeping posts handy in there so that they can be published at any time, say when you are busy? What is the total number of posts currently residing in your drafts section? Out of them, how many are ready-to-publish articles and how much of it is waste?
Or are you an impromptu blogger who writes and publishes on the go leaving the drafts to be an almost useless feature?
@DS: No no. 6 posts in first two years dont count for much :P and I'm not a professional :)
acha bachu?? NOT profilic. Arti ji is TOTALLY right... EXACTLY uska OPPOSITE :P :P and DS is also true. you are too professional a poet. its like... kuch shuru kiya... bas aise aise... finger snapping... a little scribbling... and little typing... and BINGO! another creation of a genius :) drafts ki to zarurat hi nahi :P not like poor me... who has to grope for rhyming words sometimes :P :P
NOT profilic?? pure bakwaas :P :P
sad i tell honestly that i am not prolific and log believe hi nahi karte. sigh..
Be happy We all know what you are Leo, you dont need to say anything, explicitly
Technically ,there is one post in the drafts ,which is been there for quite long time and is quite incomplete . Otheerwise no draft business , write ,edit and publish.
Oh, I am curious to see that unpublished post now. Why havent you done that? Complete it and publish it na?
Yup will try to in some time .
All of a sudden there are 4 posts in draft . All waiting to be edited and published .
I usually have about 5 to 6 articles in the draft section, but nearly all of them have to be formatted/edited/checked etc etc. Can't publish them without dedicating atleast an hour behind them. But yeah, scheduling posts is really useful and can help during times when you know that your blog will remain inactive.
Same here! I too keep them in the drafts but all these pieces need to be edited before I can hit the publish button. I check for links and other stuff, captions and this does take a lot of time.
But it always so good to see something in the drafts even if it is half cooked. It is definitely helpful to keep the blog running and active.
Do you have anything now in the drafts @The Xeno?
@Arti: At the moment... umm... uhh... i have.. like... one or less than one post(s) in my draft section ... which is why i'm looking forward to guest bloggers at the moment. I'll start again after my exams.
Why do you reqire draft for writing nonsense .(LOL)
@The Xeno: Atleast complete that less than one or one post by the time your exam starts and make sure it reaches the published section from the drafts section :)
I use draft section to store my ideas.
i just write the post tittle a small intro with keywords and leave it..
work on it in future and then post it.
@dhiraj: even non-sense needs some temporary storage space.
@arti: hmm.. lets see.. i don't think i'll be able too.
for me, the drafts are all in MS word :) with all relevant images in the folder. While on blogger, I like to do things at one go... paste, edit and go!
True.. cant write on today's Sachin century after 10 days. it'll be heard news then. hence, no need for drafts.
Yeah, I get the point. That is true, its useless for you then @DS... not by choice entirely, but by chance and niche?
same here, nothing stored in the drafts... compose, edit and publish
y drafts?
aww snap-that-just-sounds-so-cool-wish-i-could-make-posts-like-that-and-didnt-have-to-drool (read it like it is a rap :P i have been hearing too much eminem and BOB these days!! :P)
cool DS!!
I have just a couple of posts in my drafts. I do most of my writing offline, so I have a tonne of stuff as drafts but not in my blogger drafts. The few posts in draft are complete as far as I am concerned in terms of writing, but they are not ready to be published (go figure!). I recently published something that was in draft for two years! There are drafts that are between 6 and 12 months old. It is somewhat like the ripening of fruit, perhaps.
Most of these have to do with my comfort level talking about my feelings and opinions about things, and the possibility of hurting the sensibilities of others at a certain point in time. When sores heal, it is easier to bring some things out of draft.
Very instructional to learn about the process of creating a post from some veterans here, though!
Some posts i draft and keep it for publishing for later date for want of punchlines or data, generally i do not keep too many posts on Draft. The best policy is to publish draft at least within a week or 10 days otherwise the freshness of the topic vanishes. I have to catch up so many posts are pending in my mind. It is good to be away from the rat race
Very interesting feature you have pointed out, Arti.
I am more of the impromptu blogger. I get this EUREKA moment which tells me what my next blog article will be. But I'm gonna try using the DRAFTS feature now. As you rightly said, it'll keep my blog running...
when its tough going, i prefer word documents that are fast and convenient rather than logging into blogger, composing in draft and saving...
and it also helps, ppl dont realize you are not working
@Santosh I always prefer Word for preparing/composing my articles, never do I compose in blogger drafts. What I meant was that i later upload these composed articles in the drafts section of blogger for later use.
And yes, a good point there that you pointed out.. that way also it is helpful :D
You bring to notice a very valid point Arti. What happens to the blog when you are travelling, busy with work and all that jazz? While I agree with all the merits of drafting, I have a zilch draft folder. Zero posts there. I have always enjoyed writing impromptu and somehow never have the patience a draft folder needs.
But I have several pointers in a "Pending" list. These are scenes from life/thoughts which strike me and I feel can be converted into a write-up. Some of it is insane. Sample: "the cat that killed the pigeon". :D
Yeah, no wonder Deboshree.. writers are like that :) And Gosh! abt that sample! Any plans of converting that into a write-up anytime soon :P
Ha ha... not anytime soon Arti, unless the cat kills another one. :P
Interesting topic. I can't do it. If I start I need to finish it come what may. Or if I am not liking what I am writing, I totally abandon it. I can't get the same flow of thought again. Working on a post in different sessions to me is like trying to stick wet clay to a dried clay idol.
mera apne aap draft ban jaata hai Arti Ji... i type something in a wave of inspiration or desperation or frustration but quit in between getting bored :P :P
i never delete them though. so i have about 23 drafts... all trash i guess :P :P but fun to read sometines :P
some will make your jaw drop. as they do with mine :P :P
Same here, whatever i type goes in drafts, i never have a habit of deleting them too. kya pata kab kya kaam aa jaye you know that types. lol! 23 Good Going, Kirti ji!!! I am sure they are fun to read, as much as your posts are
And what is with the ji??? You call me Arti ji next time, and I promise to call you Kirti JI (with ji in bold :P) always
I do it often.. some poetry and few posts are left in drafts so that when I am held up I can keep the blog running with at least two posts a month ;)
True, it does help a lot that way, me too. I can ensure to keep my blog running that way :)
I have a lot of drafts too, but like you said most of it is not worth publishing, but I check them often to see if there's something worth posting during writer's block, and sometimes I find that I can revamp them, add some stuff and post them. That way I think having drafts is useful.
Yeah, they are indeed useful for all the reasons you mentioned. But unlike you, i have nothing or tooooo little right now
i used to have a lot of half baked ideas on poems, blogs etc and i used to loose them all. They came like a flash and then went away.
I tried keeping a voice recorder with me to just record it , but never heard em back :P
Then i started noting them down on pieces of paper..i lost many papers.
The problem was , i didnt have my ideas when needed then.So since then i make it a point to note them online so that ihave easy acces to them,
So i can say, i check drafts often
More than draft posts i love google docs, i have like tonnes of ideas from business plans to crazy monies to poems..all in 1 or 2 docs. I sort them out sometimes
Wow, i do it in my diary and then transfer them to drafts online. Google docs is a new idea. Cool to know it helps you that way and how you utilize them. Thanks for sharing :)
@Arti ...Welcome :) Google docs is awesome. ALso there are a lot of plugins available now for chrome etc . Search for chrome apps and use any notes plugin. You can keep records on your desktop and sync them online
@Ds: Oh i have tried crazy things :P
