Hi Guys, i have a blog at Bloggers. I recently bought a domain space from google-go daddy service(www.msigeek.com). I somehow is not happy with the themes I get on blogger..and also that I will need to define keywords for each of my posts. Also, one thing which hurts me is when i want to add any pictures to the blog space. in blogger, it actually ads the same to the picasa, and refernces the same. Hence, many of the pages in my blog, doesnt open to few readers of mine at thier office :D

Given this, can I change my blog service provider to wordpress and use the same domain name which i hav bought at godaddy(google serviced). If I can do this, please let me know how do I do the same.

Also, when I searched the internet, i saw that..WP does not support ads. Is that true by any chance?

I don't have a personal domain nor the self hosting, i have a blog on blogger. As far as i can understand u too started a blog on blogger, then purchased a custom domain name from go-daddy & kept blogger as the host and now you are having trouble with your blogger hosting (picasa images issue).

I think what you can do is keep the domain name but subscribe to a hosting service to get storage space. It will cost you depending upon storage space u need & the duration like 1 yr , 3yr etc . Go daddy does provide the solution you can check the rates with them & the other providers. Then you can download a free wordpress software & import all your posts. In self hosted wordpress you can freely use the ads as you like.  But if you want to keep your domain name & change the host to free wordpress, i dont think its possible because wordpress doesnt provide the redirect function.

Vijay, if the only reason for your switch is Picasa then you don't have to switch at all. You can also store your pictures in other picture hosting platforms like Photobucket and reference it from there. It could be faster.

If you're still planning to switch then Pushkar's helps is all you need. Remember though that simply having your own server space doesn't mean it'll necessarily load any faster. You need to make sure that the server is not hosting 10,000 other sites too.

cheers!

Vijay ,

I hear your issue , but I think that the reason is not strong enuf to move to self hosted wordpress . I have a self hosted wp blog and I know the admin overhead . Believe me , blogger is heaven compared to that . Your readers at office have web browsing restrictions and that is a reality of the IT industry and thy have to live with  it . Are they ssuch a big percentage that you are moving the entire blog for them ? Think about it . Even with my self hosted blog , when I embed youtube vids , pple cannot see it from office . These are things that we have too live with in India .

hope you understand
