Hey guys, I need serious help.

I use the Mozilla Firefox software and my blog runs just fine. Today, I accessed my blog from Internet Explorer and to my surprise, it did not function properly. The problems I faced were as follows:

  1. The widgets were not placed properly, they were differently aligned, especially of the bottom bar
  2. The bottom bar has 3 coloumn, but IE showed only 2 coloums and the widgets of the third coloumn were fit into the 2nd coloumn.
  3. The drop down menus were not functioning.

I tried it from home as well as cyber cafe, but the problems persist.

I don't know why this is happening. Please help me. The link is http://www.youthkiawaaz.com , try to access it from both Mozilla and IE and see the difference.

HELP!

What you are going through is known as: Thank you Bill Gates for making life online so hard syndrome!

I know exactly what you are referring to. It has something to do with IE setting its own margins and padding beyond what is specified for your template. There are a lot of tutorials out there online, which we had referred to when we trying to solve the same problem with our blog. We actually weren't able to because coding can get to be a major pain in the ass.

What we realised though that this was an issue with IE 6. The 7 and 8 versions of IE don't mess up and your blog will look exactly like it does on FF.

The other good thing is that FF is gaining popularity very quickly. Our Analytics showed that more than 60% of our readers used FF so our blog looked fine. Of the remaining users, not counting Opera and Safari, barely any were using IE 6. Most were 7 and 8 so we decided not to bother with the problem... people were upgrading anyways.

I'd recommend not worrying about it too much but if you do want to tackle is then Google alignment problems internet explorer and you should get enough advice.

cheers!

It's a pain to do it but if you really want to then google phrases like "alignment problem internet explorer" and you will get the tutorials you need. Essentially, it's about setting a separate padding/margin info in your template. So coding is required.

Hey  Renie don't say that I don't have control over It. But as said by Healthy Living India programming may be required, I will surely try this thanks for your suggestion. But one thing is sure that I am constantly loosing my visitors who are in some Institution and using IE 5.0.

Sorry folks, I'm not saying this as an IndiBlogger policy. It's purely personal from me as a web designer who has struggled with IE4, 5 & 6 for many years now. Smile

There is a group of designers who believe that if we stop designing for older browsers, then people will be forced to upgrade and the internet will be a better place. Less manhours spent on browser debugging, shorter turnaround times, happier web designers, less money spent and happier clients.

I'm a part of that group, so I cannot help myself. Have you seen IndiBlogger in IE5? Smile

Even I think that is something we should do. I have stopped designing for IE6.

Does anyone have a chiclet on their site that says something like "Best Viewed with Firefox 3" ? Does that kind of button actually help?
