Do you think Delhi Belly is against India culture ?
I believe there is a petition against the film maker and censor board for passing the film with A certificate. It is alleged that film is filled with semi porno stuff and excessive usage of abusive language. I have seen the film and found it to be more or less like Hangover 2 where expletives are used in plenty. When the censor board has approved it taking into consideration all the aspects, why should there be another question over it in the form of PIL ? This will make the movie more popular rather than being downplayed as a different movie. Even our ancestors were more liberal potraying erotica on the temple walls, it is a real downer ? what do you all feel guys ?
@Umeshji, thanks for your concern.
@INDIPOLICE:
"Indian culture is based on lots of hypocracy" and other comments too!
has hurt my sentements as an Indian. I love my culture. I don't claim that I have complete knowldge of it, but at least try to use lang. which don't hurt others' sentiments. but this also has a limit. I don't understand what is so impressive! Above statments shows only the slaves' language which is implanted from British Raj.
I know freeedom of speech is for the media and film starts. Only nationalists doesn't have freedom.
My humble request is to indipolice is to control the lang. on forum. and lack of time can't be excuse in case of biggest blogging community. You can hire people then.
I am sorry if I have hurt anybody. I have tried to ignore such statements from 2 days. I think these people don't have heard about the contribution of Adi Shankara or Swami Vivekananda or Swami Dayananda Sarasavati to this world.
And I am abstaining so I won't reply to people who don't know anything about our glorious culture. And at least I have not given monopoly of Indian culture to media or these peple.
I believe Mohini majority of the Indibloggers have fine sense of balance when it comes to usage of vocabulary. Many of the bloggers who are professionally engaged in different endeavours would not like to pen down expletives in their blogs or in forum. This may go against their future prospects. Most of it are in the private domain, so we need not be unduly worried.
Well Indian culture revolves around the rich architectural heritage, kamasutra postures was boldly displayed on the temple facades so that the commoner and royalty are treated alike. So Delhi Belly culture is nothing compared to the yester years maturity. I believe some traditionalist have not gone through Sigmund Frued's psycho analysis theories.
I realise this is the Godwin's Law of talking about Indian Culture and "vulgarity," but didn't we write the Kama Sutra? The PIL is random right-wing (so to speak) nonsense and should be ignored in general.
[puts on conspiracy theorist face]
Maybe Aamir Khan himself led the PIL drive, in order to boost the sales and media image.
[takes off conspiracy theorist face]
@ Abhijeet, i don t think that Aamir would have triggered the PIL, since attending to hearings etc would be sheer waste of time and money for a silly issue. Delhi Belly is already talk of the town in metros
Mohan blogging community is profoundly influenced by movies, that too hit bollywood movies, don t you think so. We are finding so many reviews on the film itself and the slang and profanity is getting more and more into the writings of the bloggers
Bloggers are people too :)
@Mohan... It has a lot to do with the blogging community actually. Since the release of the movie, I've come across tons of reviews on blogs. Some appreciated the humour of the film and accepted it with its foul language and all while there were many others who were outraged by it and called it a disgrace and "against" Indian culture.
@TOPIC:I completely agree with Aditya. May be its about time we, as people of India, looks within oursleves and critically analayze our culture. Maybe our culture is not as great as we have been lead to believe. Infact, no one really knows what Indian culture is. The common perceptions of right and wring have been so widely perpetuated that it is now casually being passed off as "Indian Culture".
Indian culture may involve 'sati' & 'child marriage' but it may also showcase 'respect to elders' and 'atithi devo bhava'. What I truelly and sadly believe is that Indian Culture is based on a lot of hypocrisy... everyone will do it but pretend otherwise in front of others. :(
The movie... I don't think its against Our culture just like "Shyam Benegal's Gandhi" wasn't a praise for it. Its a movie... watch it, love it, hate it... why try and relate everything good or bad with traditions and culture?
pardon the typos... decipher the text... get the gist of it. :D
@Shashank I am not really sure if we can call a culture good or bad. Its just how it is. Some ppl like it some don't. :) Personally, I like the way India embraces change or atleast did. But in the past century our culture has become so messy that it is hard to point out what comprises 'Indian Culture'
@Mohan lol
@ Mohan, whether Indipolice is impressed or not we have to accept the ground reality
I feel that you are right! Indian culture is about change, tolerance and acceptance.
People like these use 'Indian Culture' as an excuse to shield their insecurities.
There will always be bitter arguement between conservatives and modernity or rather aping the past
True but India has another problem of Pseudo Conservatives. People like Muthalik and bajrang dal or even othe right wingers crying out loud against 'sexual vulgarity' while India is the land of the Kamasutra. So what they claim is against indian culture is infact a part of it
I believe if we get rid of the hypocracy we will begin to appreciate once a while profanity, but it should not become a part of day to day lingo. It is good fun to utter expletives among friends, but when it comes to official dealings certain restrain and decorum has to be maintained. Delhi Belly is pathbraking and eye opener to all parents more so.
