My alexa rank was about 5M a month ago, and now it is 2.2M...previous IR was 70, hoping for a 78 :)

I'm clueless... how does Indirank work? and what's the criteria? pls help!

It is a way of ranking blogs just like Google ranks websites with pagerank. You need to have good content, post regularly on your blog and graually gain visitors to your blog. The higher the rank, the better. It's updated every three months. I could nt post regularly on my blog and thus dropped to 55 from 67 :( !!!

As for Google Pr, Google has its own algorithm and you have to work really hard to push up your rank. If your blog is new, you may have n/a as your rank, which gradually moves up to 0/10 and then higher upto 10. (although 10 is a rare phenomenon) :)

@Priya - You are spot on about the PR thing , just around 8 websites in the world have a PR 10 .

You mean 0/10 is a sign of improvement?

If it is, I am super happy because my blog has it now. When I saw it in the morning, I was very sad thinking I am still way behind.

Alexa does not mean much when it comes to really knowing the status of your site

But it means a lot to Indirank:)

If you are talking about Google PR, yes it is a thing to aspire for, because a lot of things are taken into account and not only incoming traffic. Ask any internet marketing person what Google PR means to him !!! :)

Indiblogger is going to make me bald!

Is it reasonable to expect that a debut Indirank for a 3 week old blog will be higher than 50, whatever that means?  And what is Alexa?

I won't be able to answer that. Rohan knows all these things very well.

But i think it depends a lot to your blog traffic and if it has a google pr nd others.

Go to www.alexa.com where you can submit your blog for free. After a  few days they will add your blog to their database and you get to know your rank according to your blog traffic.

One of my blogs is 6 weeks old and i'm expecting to cross 60.

Yeah we don't need to submit it.. but then new blogs aren't always added to their database so easily.

So "999,999,999" is better than a "not found" isn't it?

Anyway i don't know much about these things

Hpw does it matter? What matters is the rank and with upgrades we can be sure enough it will give us a better perspective of our blog to us

I'll leave the critique of the IndiRank algorithm to those more qualified but regardless of what the number may be, I'd like to get one just so my blog can be "seen" more easily by members of the IndiBlogger community who are likely to take an interest.  Based on comments from older members, it appears the number is not a good measure of the quality or usefulness of the blog.

@PC, I dont think Indirank is the way for your blog to be visible. My experience says good content packed with good networking does it for you.

I'm talking about how blogs are classified here - by "recentness" and by "indirank".

Even if you search for topical blogs, lets say cooking or sports or politics, the list of thousands comes back ranked by indirank.

No, homepage shows the most voted posts

Which posts get the most votes ? . I have never seen a less ranked blog post in the homepage . And second thing try to take things on lighter note also.
