Vote Begging Contest
I just dont understand, or maybe I am missing the point - but why do people literally beg for votes? People literally send emails/messages/leave offliners and ask to vote for their post. It is independent of whether you like that post or not, or worse, vote even if you have not read one word of it !
I am all for publicizing your post/article and letting people know that you have written something. However literally begging to vote for them is absurd. On one occasion I joked with someone - what's in it for me ? Promptly the answer came that the favor would be returned.! After all every one was doing it ! I was aghast.
Finally, I said, ok I will vote for you - but don't need one in return.Thanks !
I guess I don't blame the person, it is more of a function of our society right now.Everyone is out there to win...at any cost...hook or by crook...winning is everything. And like I said...maybe it s not them...it s me who is missing the point.
I still want to win the good old fashioned way where people would genuinely love my post for it s quality, content and presentation !
Now I see the BIC is CIC - Beggar in chief is also the cloak in chief !
Wonder why people resort to such cheap thrills and for what?
The vote mongers are back.
PS : without even reading the rules of the contest, people have started spamming facebook walls.
Yes, they are back and back with a bang!!!!
So, will there be data normalization while choosing the winners this time for #sharelife by eliminating the outliers?
The thread is but a reflection of our system and mindset.Yet we are the same set of people that so vehemently criticize the parliament fights and voting rights.
I'll make a cake and you better like it ,else your cake sucks too.!
Equating democracy while voting for a contest is not equal to voting for a country's leadership.Please do not justify vote begging under the garb of democracy.Instead,please acknowledge that judging a literary piece is a tough thing - somebody's artistry could be someone's nightmare.
So let us all maintain a sober facade and smile and let world keep spinning.
While discussion this idea struck to me..
Lets have both jury and public votes..
now jury will have their pick..which is not on indivine..so they can pick any of the posts submitted...jury shall be given some 100points which they have to distribute among theit picks of blogs...u cld make a mandate of 3 posts..with a min points for any post..
among the public votes..
there shall be slabs..on numbers like
1-10 =>5points
10-30 =>10 points
30-60 =>20 points and so on..
this i believe should make it much better than the current format..
now the grand total shall decide the winner..
hows that???
@ unknown bhai, I wish to add one or two things to the base u hve laid , .
1)jury names stictly confidential,
2) posts given to jury should be given without participant's names, like examination papers.
@Pramod - is that too difficult to find out whose post is it by searching for few lines on net?
@mohan ji, u r right on that,
I had written this about 4-5 days back
"I am of the view that instead of all the voting contests, a random jury of 15 - 20 bloggers to rate the posts and one person to collate all the indivual ratings should be comprised for each contest; a different set for a different contest... The jury would be anonymous and only a select few will know of the identities
If a blogger refuses to be a part of this judging team (say on two or three different counts), without a sufficiently convincing reason, then they may be let go from the forum....
The entrie would be hidden from everyone, including the judges, before the completion of submit by date. After that, open to view for everyone and the interested ones can comment on the blog but not be able to vote for the post... or be able to vote in the noram way but the votes would not count and in the end of it, it would the jury's vote which would matter...
I know there may be some kinks in this system... but with a few tinkerings.. it could work fyn and put an end to a lot of problems!!!"
Any thoughts on this?

@Unknown - just logged in and see a big time discussion going on this thread!
@Mohan
Oh ya thanks to @Sammy, @Abhi,@Pawan,@Sourav,@Pramod bhai..and yours truly for actively participating in this one..and making it a strong contender to the @Mag's Active Bloggers threas
Let indiblogger start a contest where there will be no prizes,just a recognition to be given,lets see what happens!I Am tired of these mails I get....Even when I am not interested I get a mail which says "We would like you to participate" blah blah
@Vijay :)
Super duper like your suggestion.
Like, like! I participate in blogaton.in
And that's what they used to do until last month. And to add, I never participated in indiblogger's competitions!
i'm loving the conversation here. but, unfortunately i do not have enough free time to go through all the posts on this thread.
Please continue!!!
Whoa!! Stupid (IMO) blogger contests have become a matter of life and death and people are doing mud throwing publicly now. Frankly idea of voting for contests is lame but then that is the rules of the game. Begging is not a crime but it is an art, for beggar also needs to be smart. It's not the weak who can bend upon his knees, it takes strong at heart to continue saying please. Sometimes the ends justify the mean, no matter how much one can demean. In the end the winner takes it all, the loser stands small.
And please if u beg, don't do it on my twitter account, for I will insult, and that will be public
@Sourav i've indimailed u something...an unsolicited suggestion though...
@ Unknown bhai, I m no match, in front of urs, and i i know tht very very well.
@Bhai pleeeeeej.. :) I follow all of ur posts ..i know about u:)
this topic..supposedly started to have a fight...now ppl read these 2 ppl flattering each other
@ unknown bhai, but he has a third eye, watching from oblivion.,
@ unknown bhai, nicely explained,
@bhai ..we both are always there to give gyaan :P
1) a sad thing people blaming each other, for mere ........,and what whims they want to prove,
arrogance and haughtyness to the extent, that asking for vote in a sincere polite manner has been made a serious issue, and termed hienously as begging.,and on top of that criticizing the written content of writers on their face , a ridiculous thing.,
we are a family here and if anyone has issues, can mail the head of the family.,
:) the head of the family is not seen at all
That comments of yours actually stopped people from blabbering! Well done man!
@Pawan : Thank you. :)
I wanted to point out that blogging isn't all about winning contests and getting recognition by any means whatsoever. It's about sharing something good. Publicity stunts make most readers like ourselves turn away from such bloggers even if their post really is award-winning material.
@Sourav : You lose honour and show that you have no spirit of sportsmanship. If this is merely a competition for you, then at least treat good writers with the respect they deserve. You, my friend are not a bad writer at all. I would repeat what you had said yourself. If you think you're deserving, try not asking, correction - begging, for votes. Then you'll know where you truly stand. And where you truly stand at the moment, Sourav (and your friend, Romeo), is not somewhere too worthy of respect.
Nicely said :)
We write because we want to but not because we are forced too!
@Abhi: Read ur BAT post too, it's good :)
Sportsmanship is about winning too, I am really good at that brother.
@ Pawan : I started blogging only a few months back and I am quite younger in terms of blogging to almost all present here. I wished my fellow bloggers over here showed some true "sportsmanship" and encouraged me rather than criticising me!
Thanks!
@Romeo: I don't even remember picking up any names!
Chill out man :)
@Romeo.. dude.. what do you expect from people.. not everyone will shower praises on you..then you will never grow up.. learn from critics... they are your best well wishers
@Abhi, @Pawan I can very well empathise with you.. the format of the contest is not fair..its no point arguing with the toppers now..cos am sure if I were..or you were in their place..we would also respond like them..
If the organisers of the events are reading this topic.. they should tweak it atleast going forward..
