Vote Begging Contest

I just dont understand, or maybe I am missing the point - but why do people literally beg for votes?   People literally send emails/messages/leave offliners and ask to vote for their post. It is independent of whether you like that post or not, or worse, vote even if you have not read one word of it !

I am all for publicizing your post/article and letting people know that you have written something. However literally begging to vote for them is absurd. On one occasion I joked with someone - what's in it for me ? Promptly the answer came that the favor would be returned.! After all every one was doing it ! I was aghast.

Finally, I said, ok I will vote for you - but don't need one in return. Thanks !

I guess I don't blame the person, it is more of a function of our society right now.Everyone is out there to win...at any cost...hook or by crook...winning is everything. And like I said...maybe it s not them...it s me who is missing the point.

I still want to win the good old fashioned way where people would genuinely love my post for it s quality, content and presentation !

I wouldn't want anyone to vote for me without reading my blogposts. I would never write something inappropriate and then beg for votes. Promoting blogs and begging for votes are really two different things. Indiblogger team, please draw a visible enough line between the two so that participants will stop annoying others by spamming on their facebook, twitter and wherever possible.

But surely it's discouraging when we see someone undeserving win a contest.

Someone said..its democracy..the canvassing happens....so why are not the bribes happening.Tongue out..or may be thats the next level...

People who want a vote... give me half of the prize money I will vote for you...I promiseWink I will vote only to you [Indi-admin please hide the names of voters]

If there was no monetary prize would the competition be that fierceInnocent[some people read this as cheap] as it is now.

Now coming to format of the contest..we have 2 options..one jury and the other public..

now if it is jury as long as the jury'sCool decision is respected by all.. an issue will never arise

if it is public then ..no matter how muchever we all shout in this thread.. people will beg borrow steal for votes..as someone said..we have to live with it..

A fundamental doubt....Are the contests designed to suit the indivine or? Indivine is created to suit to the contests?

Let there be a report abuse under every published post for the contest...where people can complain if someone has begged for vote...and depending on the number of reports.. there shall be some penaltyYell for such blogger...now the person who is complaining ..shall produce the proof of abuse..so that the counter can be increased..

hows that?

@ unknown bhai, clear conceptualization..

every mother thinks his child is cutest and best. writer  is mother of his creation. and he surely thinks he is best and deserves the shield. but when the lightning speed of vote demistifies him, he cribbles, and starts calling names.

@Bhai.. very true..

so lets not have this race for votes..

in the current format...it so seems like the blogger's job is not done just with writing the post..the much bigger task is to get votes..some call it marketing..some call it begging.. :)

if this whole voting drama is removed..then the blogger can concentrate only the content..and dream about the prize once he is done with it..

very rightly said ,bro,

I'm not sure whether this was a jibe directed at me...but I'd like to say the word used in this context should be 'cribs' and not 'cribbles' (which means something different altogether) and 'name calling' is referred to abusing another. And so far I'm not sure anybody has used profanity to abuse anyone in this thread.

Also 'demystifies' and not 'demistifies'.

@ samadrita, I can sincerely feel your pains and appreciate sincerely of  you to  be super intelligent to read between the lines., I sincerely apologize if  i hurt your feelings in any manner what so ever,

I was just touched by haughtiness and criticisms directed at fellow bloggers on tweets, and was not meant on a personal basis,

Well, call it my tragedy. I finally thought someone visited my blog finally, when I got an email notification that you have a comment to approve. Excitedly I went to my blog after a month, only to find one line, saying "good post. You are talented. Can you please see http://IamheretobegforvoteandIhaven'treadit.com and promote and vote my blog for sharelife contest". That's it. It was like I commented on your blog so now you have a moral responsibility to vote for me. I don't care if noone reads what I write, but this is not acceptable.

I have a simple way of doing things, anyone who begs for me for votes. If I talk to him/ her nicely, I have already marked their post a spam. Simple. No questions asked.

@sidhesh babu, very Godly, saamne rosogolla and peeth me khanjar. nice philosophy.

I am of the view that instead  of all the voting contests, a random jury of 15 - 20 bloggers to rate the posts and one person to collate all the indivual ratings should be comprised for each contest; a different set for a different contest... The jury would be anonymous and only a select few will know of the identities

If a blogger refuses to be a part of this judging team (say on two or three different counts), without a sufficiently convincing reason, then they may be let go from the forum....

The entrie would be hidden from everyone, including the judges, before the completion of submit by date. After that, open to view for everyone and the interested ones can comment on the blog but not be able to vote for the post... or be able to vote in the noram way but the votes would not count and in the end of it, it would the jury's vote which would matter...

I know there may be some kinks in this system... but with a few tinkerings.. it could work fyn and put an end to a lot of problems!!!

Now if anyone can tag Renie to this post!!!

@ashish, a nicely thought system, but ,then newcomers to indie will slow down. its the fervor for asking votes that many friend know of it and join up.

Aashish Sood

Why would people want to join because of voting for someone... and anyhow only those people can vote who are already on indi network because the bloggers who have just joined, their vote counts for nil

@ashish ji, more people get to know of indie through them, then some clever minds in them think of the prize as well as recognition and say ,hey i can do better, so they join the rat  race.

I joined, when on facebook, sochlo blogger contest, heard of it for vote only, I got inspired, and racked my brains out to come up with a nice suspense thriller,

Pramodji: I am not sure how many people do join and/or participate because of this... and I am not sure as to how many people get inconvenienced because of this either... but what I do know is that statitically speaking, the latter would be much larger than the former!!!

I am not in this mad rush but what's wrong in request for promoting a post?

All  student leaders , your area association members, club associations or those contesting an election  all of them request for your  vote? You vote only when you find them worth a vote and the same yardstick can be used on indivine contest. Do not promote if you do not like!

Sourav, it's not about winning here. It's about getting down on your knees and literally begging for votes. That's about losing your self-esteem as a writer.

I believe even my post is good, certainly a lot better than yours. It actually makes more sense pertaining to the  "Share Life" theme. But it's not a surprise that you and your friend Romeo Das are way ahead of me because you promoted and I decided not to.

I agree with Gyanban as in you should certainly publicize your post but begging for votes is something that I and many others find rather insincere, especially when your post doesn't have the competence required to win.

Sourav C. Pandey

I agree completely to what Gyan Ban said! But verything good needs promotion, and it's no crime my friend. And no offense dude, but stop getting personal here and be all judgemental.

"I believe even my post is good, certainly a lot better than yours."

Got nothing more to say.

Thanks

@ abhishek, writers like mark twain also had struggling phase, on one occasion he was manhandled and thrown out of publishers office,.

every body is free to mhave personal opinions and act accordingly,. nobody is forcing anybody,.to vote for anybody, its a way of telling thing, but intention is same for everyy one.

Hmm..

guys.. its ok if someone thinks your posts are undeserving.. after all none is perfect..

It reminds of the Indian Idol show...when Karunya was left out just for not getting enough votes..whereas the other one I dont even remem who..that shows how good he is..won just cos of the votes...now GOD only knows how fair the voting is.. but still he was the winner..he got the prize...

in the same way.. these blog contests are not about how well you write..its about how many votes you can get... so people who got votes by spamming or by popularity...still it is fair in the current format..

participants dont get offended by others' comments.. everything is subjective :)

@Pawan : Thank you.  :)

I wanted to point out that blogging isn't all about winning contests and getting recognition by any means whatsoever. It's about sharing something good. Publicity stunts make most readers like ourselves turn away from such bloggers even if their post really is award-winning material.

@Sourav : You lose honour and show that you have no spirit of sportsmanship. If this is merely a competition for you, then at least treat good writers with the respect they deserve. You, my friend are not a bad writer at all. I would repeat what you had said yourself. If you think you're deserving, try not asking, correction - begging, for votes. Then you'll know where you truly stand. And where you truly stand at the moment, Sourav (and your friend, Romeo), is not somewhere too worthy of respect.

@Romeo.. dude.. what do you expect from people.. not everyone will shower praises on you..then you will never grow up.. learn from critics... they are your best well wishers

@Abhi, @Pawan I can very well empathise with you.. the format of the contest is not fair..its no point arguing with the toppers now..cos am sure if I were..or you were in their place..we would also respond like them..

If the organisers of the events are reading this topic.. they should tweak it atleast going forward..

1) a sad thing people blaming each other, for mere ........,and what whims they want to prove,

arrogance and haughtyness to the extent, that asking for vote in a sincere polite manner has been made  a serious issue, and termed hienously as begging.,and on top of that criticizing the written content of  writers  on their face , a ridiculous  thing.,

we are a family here and if anyone has issues, can mail the head of the family.,

Whoa!! Stupid (IMO) blogger contests have become a matter of life and death and people are doing mud throwing publicly now. Frankly idea of voting for contests is lame but then that is the rules of the game. Begging is not a crime but it is an art, for beggar also needs to be smart. It's not the weak who can bend upon his knees, it takes strong at heart to continue saying please. Sometimes the ends justify the mean, no matter how much one can demean. In the end the winner takes it all, the loser stands small.

And please if u beg, don't do it on my twitter account, for I will insult, and that will be public
