Cooking Solo for 500 People - You are invited !

Hiya fellow Food bloggers,You are invited to a Southie food fest, where I'm attempting to cook single handedly, a full fledged 10 course marriage feast, for 500 people, in under three hours. Right from washing and cutting vegetables, to getting food on the table, everything would be done solo. The feast will have dishes from all four Southern states. Who? I'm Ramki, a software engineer and now a passionate cook. (More info at www.ramkicooks.blogspot.com) Why?To demonstrate the unity of South Indian cuisine and exhibit unity at a time when forces seek to divide us. There is nothing better than food to bring people together !When ?Sat Jan 17, 4.00 PM to 8.00 PM Where? GG MahalBehind Arumbakkam MMDA colony Bus terminus, Chennai How? South indian cuisine is built from four major building blocks - Tamarind, Tuvar dal, Yogurt and coconut. All the innumerable curries cooked across South India are just various combinations of these basic building blocks. By understanding these combinations, it is easy to cook up a wide variety of South Indian curries.Would be a pleasure to have fellow foodies join this event - Come on in !

@Ramakrishna - Man, easier said. Thats amazing work! I'm sure that should've taken a lot of patience and effort and skill ofcourse. How did it go?

Amitabh, Sharon & Rekha, Thanks ! Ashutosh, it is easy if you plan it well. Step 1: Cook 25 Kg + 25 Kg of rice + 25 Kg of Dal in three large vessels - 45 minutes. This is the crucial step and if this is done right, there is little chance of goof up ! Step 2 : Create gravies to go with rice - various combination of gravies can be built from dal, tamarind, yogurt and coconut. The menu is as below. 1. Badam Kheer 2. Thakkali Kulambu. ( Chettinad Tomato Stew) 3. Dali Thove ( Karnataka's Lentil stew) 4. Tomato pappu ( Andhra's Tomato, lentil stew ) 5. Vellirikkai Thayir pacchadi ( Cucumber raita) 6. Majjiga pulusu ( Andhra's yogurt stew) 7. Shunti Thambli ( Karnataka's yogurt - coconut - ginger blended curry) 8. Drumstick Sambar 9. Cabbage thoran ( Kerala's Cabbage coconut dry curry) 10. Mysore rasam ( Lentil - coconut - tamarind thin stew) 11. Pappadam ( Kerala's Lentil wafers ) 12. Mango Pickle 13. Yummy! I have been living in the south for the last two decades and have now become partial to south Indian food. I am a terrible cook but love eating! Have fun cooking and feeding.
