Dear bloggers,

I have been reading a large number of reviews and requests for reviews. I have found, that more often than not, reviewers provide a large amount of time and discussion on the layout, the template, the widgets and so forth.

To put it mildly, we focus extensively on the technology part of it, without providing any constructive/substantive feedback (beyond 'interesting', 'wide variety' and 'good' and 'nice': words which mean little! except for putting smiles on our faces) on the content.

This, I think defeats in certain ways the real purpose of blogging: which as I understand was to democratise writing and publishing, by making it available to all. By ensuring that we were not trapped in tech glitches and wizardry and self-promotion.

So, I propose to review your blogs, but focus on the content of it. Comments on deepening it, adding more layers to your writing, exploring other dimensions of your posts, the graphic quality, and so forth.

My purpose for doing it: discovering substantive blogs and their authors.

I look forward to a manageable trickle and not a deluge, to begin with!

And in return, I look forward to your comments on my blog as well. Don't worry, I am not reopening it because I am unemployed, but because I want to enlarge my google reader and discover many more worthwhile blogs. Just so you know: I read English and Hindi. And can manage with Gujarati and Urdu.

Other vernacular blogs and bloggers: you are welcome to comment on my blog.

We can divide the world in two categories - those who believe that it can be divided in two categories and those who do not. On the one hand, we have countries in European Union who have moved beyond the debate for Capital Punishment. On the other hand there are authoritarian states, which use Capital Punishment as a tool to subjugate. In this regard, I find the Indian approach well balanced. There are enough provisions and sufficient delay built in the system to identify the outliers. This system works hard to avoid hanging the criminal with a shadow of doubt. And very few cases ultimately result in the capital punishment. I have followed a few cases in UK, where I have noticed public anger when heinous crimes result in a life sentence, which does not mean sentenced for life. I recall one case where the state had to protect a murderer because his life was at risk from fellow prisoners. (Suggesting that convicted murderers do not find all murderers to be equal.) I think, there are times when a state does not have to state a position unambiguously. Capital Punishment is one such topic. Apologies for posting unrelated comment but found a few posts in this thread that touched this topic.

Dear DS,

Lovely blog. I have one main comment to make. A lot of the blog space is dedicated to scores and statistics. Now these are easily available on many web-sites now, newspapers run year-end specials and so on. You may want to cut down the flab and bring us incidents that are less well known. Or your own experiences with the game. Or maybe your reflections on many other related cricketing stories. Apartheid, sledging, the commercialisation of the game and what you think of it, the small town players taking over the Indian team, Pakistan having to play its home matches in the Gulf. And so on... That I think will cut the flab and make your blog so much more interesting. I know this might require more research, but that's alright: I think the quality will far offset the number of entries.

By the way, loved the one on sledging. Do you know if women's game is different when it comes to sledging? Do you want to write about that?

Its all good as long as one has the genuine intention to do so. Like we have people who want to have more writers or who are having problem with URL/hosting redirects. That's the difference between a human mod and a bot mod ;).

Dear Runcil,

Thanks, read your blog and enjoyed it. Well, not very much. And that is not because the content is not good, but only because we live in very different worlds. Take for example, your best song picks for 2010. (Can I say it out aloud?) I know only of Ishqiya from your music list. So I guess our lives converge one on ten. That significant difference in the worlds we stradle apart, I think your blog is quite good. A lot of it comes from your own education/work/life. And yes, poems don't agree with me. So I will leave those out.

If I have some suggestions to offer: love the pictures, and they tell a lot more about you, your life, the worlds you live in. More of it please.

Second, a larger font size please, ageing readers have to squint to read the finer prints. Love the title, quite apt!

Do you know of Dadaism?

And some of the macabre stories on train accidents: write more! Do you know of the lives of the hamaal? Do you research your posts before you write. I know I don't. But it really helps.

Nevertheless, lovely. I am the wrong audience though :)

Thanks for your time CC. I'll keep your points in mind. I do not always research, at least I haven't done so for the train ones yet. And Dadaism, I had read about it long ago; will have to refresh my memory about it. Thanks, again. :)

I have also started blog reviews recently. Good to see someone else also taking it up. I saw some of your old reviews. They are pretty good. I would also like my blog reviewed by you. I am not sure if we are allowed to post links. If it is not much of trouble, could you take my blog link from my profile and review?
