Time for IndiRank to be upgraded - need ideas!

Bloggers! Now that we've completed a revamp of IndiVine, it's time for IndiRank to have an upgrade as well. Here are a few ideas I have as of now:

  • We create a dashboard for every blogger (in their account), where they can see detailed info on their IndiRank.
  • This detailed info will include customized tips on how to improve IndiRank - based on the values picked up by our crawler.
  • We'll include the previous IndiRank - with graphs to show how a blog's IndiRank has changed over time, and why.
  • We'll show a countdown timer to the next update.

Any other ideas? Smile

can indirank be updated more frequently?

or rather can new users get their rank faster instead of waiting for a month for indirank to get refreshed?

I also posted a suggestion for improvement of indivine in the indivine thread. Have a look

Hey Aditya, we cannot update IndiRank for new users seperately - ranks are generated relative to all the other IndiBloggers. So if half the bloggers have an increase in Alexa/Pagerank while the rest remain the same, both groups will have a change in their IndiRank.

As for updating more frequently - one of the reasons for this upgrade is to streamline the entire process (crawling, calculations, email update to all users) so that we can do exactly that! Smile

I have a small suggestion regarding the name. Generally most of us think rank means, lower the better. Probably I can suggest you to name it as indiscore.

I like rest of your suggestions and when is it coming up?

Absolutely agree that this needs a change. However, I'd vote for keeping the name and changing the score to 100-score. A rank has a nicer ring to it ;-)

I think you should not divulge the entire algoritm of how it is calculated otherwise spam users will start rigging their parameters to get high rank.

You can just tell the parameters (alexa, PR, technorati rank, backlinks etc) on which it is calculated.. and charts on each of them for previous months.

What say?

Great. Waiting for the countdown . . .

An idea: Maybe (thinking aloud) the people who have higher ranks, say above 75 can be given a week each in the forum where they speak out about content, widgets, alignment, ideas, relevance of comments, etc. Presently we do it only when asking for reviews. But by giving them a week each or maybe three days, the toppers can sound off. It can be called 'Indi Top Guns Gyan' or something like that.

Don't know whether its plausible but nevertheless . . .

Keep the great work going Renie and Anwin!Innocent

Joy always,

Susan

nice idea but we need to see how many people figure in that list. There might be too many, plus many wouldnt be ready for such an interview. Instead we can have a weekly member be interviewed and his/her interview is put up on the site. Something like what blogadda does.

Hey Renie, great job dude :). This is quite exhaustive development. Do you think we should do it in phases? I suggest that. In that way, you can provide one feature at a time and take a break, so that you can be your own boss (:-P)

And one more thing. I was just thinking that from above all the features, we should keep something in premium. That may come at a cost and the proceeds can go to IndiChild funds. What say others?

Funding for the IndiChild funds is great, but being a student I will not able to contribute and thus I will be restricted someway. This cannot be allowed.

This is my opnion, don't feel bad.

For the first time in my life I would second Hemal. Lol :) I agree with that! But isn't it going to be tough? For you Renie?

Btw, are we going off topic? or off the record?

Even i would face a dip in ranks, but thats okay. I will climb up back. As for funding IndiChild, we only have a few select services that might go that way. I think all come up with an idea that will help us achieve both.
