Vipul, Narenda, Sonya,

Just a clarification. To date I have never participated in the contests here so the question of me deserving or not deserving does not arise!

Vikas take a chill man.. U'll gt the traffic tht u deserve.. U jus need patience.

Indiblogger and Blogadda are doing what they can. And whatever they r doing is commendable. nd did they charge u anything for those services???

Yes, there is scope for improvement and Indiblogger guys are doing the same over the time.

Kindly support them rather thn putting up sch comments.

Secondly, yes thr r shortcumings in IB of the month voting bt rmmbr only a gud blogger will gt blogger buddies nd hence votes.. First, plz strt networking through IB nd u'll definitely do better in contest.

I was first runner up in second edition, at time wn i didn't have more thn half a dozen committed readers.

NO vipul...I disagree!there is nothing wrong in voicing your opinion..Vikas is right to have his take on IB of the month..and somehow perhaps he thinks he deserved it (say, sometime in the past)more than someone who GOT it...so there is nothing wrong in speaking out..

but yes the tone of the comment is obejectionable to many! NOT ME!!  :) :P we all have rights to speak AGAINST/FOR anything..

As for improvement and other stuff i agree with you..earlier we had no common place to meet up but now atleast we can have all our ppl to interact with one another(BLOGADDA still is prehistoric in this regard...they dont have IB type forums..or i might not explored it enough)

and about winning the IB of the month or not..well if you ask me..it really doesn matter to me who wins...(as long as I get the traffic.. :P )..

peace to all...may the best poet win . :)

1. Vipul, I am not dying for traffic. My primary blog has about 57000 hits as of now. I have about 10 blogs [many of them one-time documentations] including on social themes/issues like  Delhi zoo, JNU holi, etc. and they are doing quite well. 'Delhi zoo' almost tops in Google though not many search that keyword. I was only informing how the Blogadda link was almost useless from the traffic angle; this however may not be true for everyone as the Sonya Gee comment suggests.

2. Vipul, Indiblogger and Blogadda definitely do not charge us anything and neither does Blogcatalog and any other such forum. Such forums could and should be free only! You are free to feel to feel enormously obliged just the same!

3. Vipul, merely criticising does not mean that I am not supporting. If you think the comment is not in good humour feel free to suggest the admin to remove it. Dissent and criticism is the sine qua non of blogging. Feel free to criticise me and you will always be welcome. The world will be a very boring place if we only sugar coat things. Sarcasm, criticism etc. are also important aspects of life and blogging. So you take a chill!Cool

4. Well, even a bad blogger can get blogging buddies, FYI! People are hungry for comments and many network with an aim to getting comments and hits [you scratch my back and I'll scratch yours]! But such cases are rare. The point I was making is tnot that bad bloggers are getting selected; it's just that the more networked are getting selected.

5. Congrats on your being the first runner up in the second edition. If you have enough commmitted readers now, you may not lose another competition here.

6. If the tone and tenor of my comment is objectionable, I will have no problems with that post getting removed. Barking up the wrong tree is a wonderful idiom, I believe.

7. I wish the forum replies were also showing in our mailboxes instead of just a link to come back here and check things. Frown

8. Thank you Vipul, Sonya and Narendra for the comments.

@Vikas : I agree with you that it is someone who is popular or a regular blogger contributing tends to win always due to higher visibility or having more friends in blogosphere. But isnt blogging an interactive media.

I hardly get to read others blogs(not that I wouldnt like to but I have paucity of time) but I use my blog to post my short stories and poems.Despite of my  non active status,my hindi blog was in top 10 list in short story contest and there were more than 300 hits during the contest.Similarly, blog adda has featured my englsih short stories 4 times in last one month as one of the best posts and traffic has been amazing!!!So,lets give credit to these guys for giving platform to bloggers to get noticed for good posts.

Lets hope with the new voting rules, the most poeticperson wins this time and good poets get good traffic:)

There should be some rules for voting. Those bloggers who are more networked get the votes in the competition. The deserving blogs don't get the awards! Often, most entries have 1 votes or 2 votes while those bloggers who have more followers and friends get more votes and win! If anybody thinks real talent is rewarded in these competitions, he/she would be barking up the wrong tree! A group of eminent people and bloggers should choose the winners in my opinion. Presently friends come and vote and leave [nobody reads others' posts]!

There may be 126 comments here while I am writing this post but when it comes to voting, people hardly read the posts and vote! Indiblogger has failed in becoming popular like Blog Catalog [notwithstanding its huge Indi rank logos and Indi logos that Indian bloggers proudly publish on their blogs; also people pine for a Blogadda tangy tuesday selection etc. When a social post of mine was selected in Blogadda Tangy Tuesday, all it got was 6 visitors from them!].

In future you should include a package of domain name, hosting account and a premium theme in the awards.

How about random ramblings... a lot of people ramble randomly....

Im even up for "dear diary" - posts about everyday life and happenings... its the only thing my blog would ever qualify for... plus its classic, the very reason why online journals came into being.

Renie, thanks for taking both the far ends of the spectrum - tech and poetry into considerations. The poets can withdraw their scathingly searing ammo of rhyming words and the techies can lock their carbine powered semi automatics to safe mode.

If we having multiple votes i.e. no. of votes same as no. of blogs, we may be choosing the best poetry/tech blog post and not blog, which is also cool. It may also occur that a user has 5 blog posts - each of which gather 5 votes = 25 but he is beaten by someone whose 1 blog posts is a killer lapping up 30 votes. But as Sri Harsha said, if it doesn't create a mess, its fine with us.

But we are glad that we have a verdict. As someone rightly said, Gentlemen (and ladies if I may add), start your engines!

Yo Saurabh, you just gave me serious heebiedabajeebies with this one... I was wondering if I had come up with this idea when I was half asleep! Smile We're keeping it simple - 5 votes per bloggers, and it's unrelated to the number of nominations.

Saurabh Hirani

Okay. I just thought that the no. of nominations are 5 and the no. of votes too. The similarity between the two made me think so.

All right decided - we're going to run 2 contests at the same time, September as well as October! September - Poetry, October - Technology.

Both contests will open on the 1st of October. Every person can vote five times per contest, unlike the single vote restriction that was there earlier. And we'll open the voting phase for a longer period this time.

What say, everyone? Smile

im still averse to both the categories selected.

Poetry because we just recently had an IB on literature

Tech because there are way too many blogs on it and we would have just too many nominations and many peoples knowledge is restricted in that field. Cant we specify something within tech? isnt tech as a whole too broad? probably something like computers, cellphones, software, hardware etc.

Narrowing down Technology isn't too bad... Let's make it Technology - Gadgets then?

narendra

NO!!no two categories..it makes life tough..and 5 vote thing is also not a good idea according to me..!!

why?

earlier with one vote you could have voted whom u considered best and after voting u cud see other votes(that ways it dint influence ur decision)..now after 1 votes u cud clearly see who is the top and all that..and naturally u tend to vote the topmost..i dunno why ,there must hav been a research on this somewhere in the world :P

if 5 vote,then why vote ??

Aditya Tibrewala

@narendra

two categories seems a little tedious to me too. I dont think that after casting your first vote you can see the results. In fact if im  not mistaken, Renie is planning to scrap the entire idea of displaying the results and he wishes to hold the suspense till the very end.

narendra

@Aditya

the 2 category idea is scaring the hell out of me..i have exams this month :P(not that i care..LOL...but i am not allowed to use internet,,:P)

but if the votes are all secret then i am game for it...but can u have one category pls....either poetry or tech...keep tech this time and peotry next time or vice versa..:)
