Pune under swine flu attack
Pune is under an electric grip of swine flu, and one can see people swathed in masks, milling around while doing the chores and running errands. There is a certain sense of fear that is understandable. To add to the panic, fresh instances of positive tested cases are being reported every day.
Aativas - Yes, people do need to understand the difference between panic and precaution! But unfortunately such is not the case!
Neeraj - Thanks for the inputs!
Swine flu is completley curable and it does not affect the victim immediately.
My appeal to all people is to get yourself screened only if you come accross flu-like symptoms. There is absolutely no need to panic.
It is important that everyone understand the correct symptoms of this flu or rather differences between common cold & swine flu:
Cold
-Fever is rare with a cold. -A hacking, productive (mucus- producing) cough is often present with a cold. -Slight body aches and pains can be part of a cold. -Stuffy nose is commonly present with a cold and typically resolves spontaneously within a week. -Chills are uncommon with a cold. -Tiredness is fairly mild with a cold. -Sneezing is commonly present with a cold. -Cold symptoms tend to develop over a few days. -A headache is fairly uncommon with a cold. -Sore throat is commonly present with a cold. -Chest discomfort is mild to moderate with a cold.
Swine Flu-Fever is usually present with the flu in up to 80% of all flu cases. A temperature of 100°F or higher for 3 to 4 days is associated with the flu. -A non-productive (non-mucus producing) cough is usually present with the flu (sometimes referred to as dry cough). -Severe aches and pains are common with the flu. -Stuffy nose is not commonly present with the flu. -60% of people who have the flu experience chills. -Tiredness is moderate to severe with the flu. -Sneezing is not common with the flu. -The flu has a rapid onset within 3-6 hours. The flu hits hard and includes sudden symptoms like high fever, aches and pains. -A headache is very common with the flu, present in 80% of flu cases. -Sore throat is not commonly present with the flu. -Chest discomfort is often severe with the flu.
I believe people forget to understand difference between panic and precaution. And it is always easy to criticise government, but do we all follow government guidelines? Puneits are all 'independent' people, each one has some guideline to give to others... so, whatever Government does, there will be always some people complaining about it. Let us not forget that some people are tirelessly working round the clock to control the situation. Let us thank them and cooperate with them ... by taking precaution and not spreading panic (unintentionally though...)
Of course, I am not saying anyone on this forum is doing this... it is a general statement based on the observations around...
Komet - Yes, Pune is in a dire situation! Hope normalcy returns soon!
Pune is the most affected city at the moment! The fear is running absolutely high. Streets are deserted, come to think of it! This is Pune, which is always full of life, god! Hope that the worst is behind us and we soon, get over this.
It spread primarily because of quarantine measures not being in place at the start! Quite true, if humans could not be doctors .. we would have been extinct in days!!!
Damn .. how did the dang thing spread so fast .. Imagine if humans could not be doctors .. we would have been extinct in days!!!
Dream - Well, the government should have woken up long before invoking the Epidemic Act, but a curfew will only lead to more panic, dont U think?
Pune is under panic... People dont know as to when they would be a victim.Govt. must take some necessarry action .When would our govt. wake up. I think there should be a curfew situation levied in Pune for 20 Days and them might be we could think situation would come under control.
Anwin - I agree, panic is the last act, as I have stated in my post and people should focus on measures of prevention while also not losing sight of sanitation which is most important!
Awareness, like you said, helps in these times!
Yes, its rather unfortunate!
Whole of India is now under swine flu attacks now..
