One vs. Multiple blogs
Hi
Is it better to have one general blog for all topics or multiple speciality blogs?
Please suggest.
Thanks
Thanks a lot everyone for your suggestions... It really helped me come up with a decision.
Cheers.
I vouch for one. I tried to diversify early this year and learned the hardway. It only reduced my productivity and I couldn't justify my time to both at the same time. So I closed the new one and currently working on only one.
Great. I guess it is tempting to have multiple blogs but managing them and creating frequent content has to be rather high. Even with a high frequency of writing it might be better to have just one blog.
However, there are corporates, PR agencies, and influencers who have been sold to the idea of niche blogs... and sometimes readers do prefer a focus as it is time-consuming to rummage through a blog with a medley of topics.
As many before have pointed out, running more than blog makes sense if you are consistent in quality and frequent in posting otherwise donning many hats can be a herculean task! I have two blogs running, the second one was created to reap the benefits of having an own domain name but things are running into rough weather due to sheer laziness and the inability to provide quality inputs on a continuous basis. So more often than not, the second one is a rerun of posts that are already available in the other one just to keep them active and alive..more like on life support system.
What must matter more to a blogger is being able to write a good post...
Niche blogs are as much about ease for readers looking for a topic as they are about the way blogging can be translated into a vehicle for earning money.
An analogy that comes to my mind is one where a customer enters a multi-brand store like Lifestyle and has access to multiple brands in more than one category... and likes the convenience of an inventory across brands.
One the other hand are specific brand stores where one may find a larger inventory and is, therefore, preferred.
In both cases the sizze of the inventory matters... this translated for bloggers simply means that it is good content created frequently that matters more than anything else.
Wonderful exmaple Arvindji, I truly agree that in either case the quality and freshness of content is important. For me managing multiple blogs isn't possible, hence I went with the "multi-brand' model and have a multi-niche blog where I focus on the freshness and quality of the posts.
Thank you Atulpriya... for not pointing out the grammatical and spelling errors in my update. :)
Thanks a lot for suggestion Arvind ji...
I agree good content is most important...
i think Multi Topic Blog is best. Check to My Multitech Topic Blog.
Shaikh, please dont post ur blog links here. Thats shameless self promotion
If the subject is completely different, you can build multiple but do remember maintaining multiple blogs can become daunting really fast.
yes I agree. Thanks for the suggestion
Cheers
Tell me Kritika, are you hardworking and absolutely (do not take it so literally) determined?
in my opinion I am :)
Why do you ask?
Okay, then you may go ahead with multiple blogs, genre-wise. Usually, bloggers who aren't hardworking and absolutely determined set up multiple blogs impulsively, but end up with completely abandoned blogs. That's why I asked.
If you can generate content periodically, multiple blogs for specific niches is the way to go.
Thanks for the suggestion. I dont think I can write that frequently due to multiple household/job responsibilities.
In this case I think one blog would be the way for me.
cheers
It depends more on you. I keep it for commercial purposes. One site for PC hardware and then after few years for gadgets. One of the main direct advertisement pitch for the 1st site is that the page views are 100% relevant for PC component brands, unlike most tech sites that mix them all. Whether you have 1 or multiple, managing it is more on you. If you manage it, either one of them will work. As long as it does not dilute quality and consistency. Start with one genre. get confidency and then plan accordingly.
Thanks for the suggestion. Its helps :)
