The Times of India carried a front page headline a few days ago that pointed to an ominously disturbing fact that the worth of fake currency circulating in the country is an estimated Rs.1,69,000 crore! Of this, the authorities have been able to seize a paltry Rs. 63 cores while the remaining amount still remains at large! As if that was not enough, people across the nation are at loss when they find ATMs spewing out counterfeit currency, a claim that is not very seriously taken by banking authorities, often leading to end consumer loss.

Richa & Anwin - Thanks for your thoughts! Hopefully the government is geared up to fight this menace, something that is costing the exchequer and the people dearly!

Pakistan, as a government is very different from the nation and its people, who have been warm in their relationship with India!

However the same cannot be said about the Pak government!

Anwin - yes, detection of fake 500 currency notes is rather difficult given the accuracy level at which counterfeits are printed. And since banks really dont have the man power to fill ATMs, they hire private security agencies to do that, a process that needs some checking up, as you said!

Leon - That Indian currency is Printed in Pakistan, is common knowledge for over decades now!

Hemal - yes, this is an issue that many people have come to face in the recent times....... possession of fake notes are illeagal and no substantiative explanation can help one obtain a recompense, sadly!

Thanks for your visit and comments!

Even i had faced this. ATMs also give out fake notes and if reported, only the fake note is taken away and you are not compensated.
