Need to speak with someone frankly about their hosting expenses and related stuf

Hey guys!

I am really pissed of with my current hosting provider. My blogs are down 3rd time in the row and the only time they can come up is a day after they go down.

Now, I do want to change my provider but as I am not earning anything from my blog, so can't spen much on the support system also.

Is there anyone who can guide me and speak frankly about how they are up-keeping their blogs? Anyone?

Thanks!

Rishie - Dhakkanz

Well, in my openion, you should improve your site performance, most of them are unaware about how to optimize their site. I have seen most of blogger, host their css and javascript file (even ajax script, that is already hosted on google cloud) are hosted on own server. So at least host that type of static content on other site like dropbox or github page. Also you can use coockies less domain, to save huge amount of bandwidth to host static content.

You can even use cloudflare CDN, that will help to serve same content again from their cache memory, so it's also help to save some resource in your host. Also I recom. to go with our Indian server like hostgator.in, it's also help to serve your content more easily since, your visitor and main host is near to each other, so they can easily fly :Laughing

Sorry for the Late reply Rishie. Yes the hosting will be only for 1 year. After that period, it'll cost something around $35.  Also, there was a coupon for Namecheap which gave me some discount on Hosting. I couldn't find that coupon but I've found one 20% discount coupon.Coupon Code: LEAFPILEThis should give you some discount.  Also, I am using my GoDaddy domain with it. Namecheap allows you to register a free .website domain when you buy a hosting. It's upto you if you want to claim that or not. :)After using the hosting for 2 months, the service is overall fine for normal blogs. Although there isn't any downtime but sometimes the site may be a bit slow in loading but they have a good live support system and can help you with that. For 480 Rs , it's not bad. Obviously, I'll be shifting to another web host next year .

I use Synthesis hosting service. One of the best hosting for Wordpress but it costs me around $1200 a year. I am pretty happy with it because I am in complete Genesis environment (genesis thesmes+Genesis tool+ genesis hosting).

Abhishek - $1,200??? Surprised

Or you mean to say Rs. 1,200?

As Vijay Prabhu has pointed out, it's really important to know what kind of hosting requirements you have, or you might end up spending in something that is either too much or too less for your blog. It'll be great if you could tell us the maximum number of visits your blog is getting, and what is the trend, I mean, whether the traffic is going up or down.

As for your question, I am using a shared linux hosting for my relatively new blog (which I am updating quite slowly), it costs me 1500 rupees for a year, but is quite good in terms of performance and uptime.

CyberKID - my blog is relatively new, with 15 something posts. Also, I am quite aware of the traffic-bandwidth relationship. What I need to know is which provider is giving these options:

  1. Multiple websites can be installed; which means multple SQL databses as each installation would require one for its own
  2. Higher bandwidth transfer (which is effectively the traffic allowance on the website)
  3. A good uptime or you can say good service (including backup service)
  4. and finally, it should be CHEAP! CHEAP! CHEAP!

I am focussing too much on a Cheap service because mine is completely bootstrapped website. If anyone can throw some suggestions on that too, you are please welcome. I really need a suggestion or two. In case you are willing to discuss in private - please send me a DM.

Thanks CyberKID

What is the number of visitors you have. The hosting and the server is dependent on that Undecided

Vijay - I am aware about the visitors and the bandwidht stuff. As my blog is really new (just 15-somthing posts) and very less traffic. So, I can do with anything right now but nothing which will hinder scalability.

I have taken a subscription of a VPS from Digital Ocean. Cost me $5 per month. But I get to host as many sites as I like. (Sinc VPS allows you to do anything with the 20 GB they have alloted to us).

Since it's hosted on SSD the site is fast and uptime is great.

I pay 30k for hosting via VPS from Knownhost. Works just fine. Automatic backup. Lots of storage. Maybe 5-6 people can pool in and share VPS space and expenses. I think it should be a much better option.

Yeah, this will be my third year in KH.

Sorcerer - Surprised Wow! If you are spending 30k, I am assuming you would be earning in 5 digits from your website Wink. But on a serious note, for me this is compeletely out of pocket and out of questions (maybe for the time being).

But it is a great idea - about taking VPS and then sharing it within friends. Thanks man!

Actually, I just started a second site and using the same VPS. I was confused how to do the setups and all, but Knownhost host guy took care of everything- from creating a new user in Cpanel to all the way to full WordPress installation. If you really know what you're doing and you can managing handling the backend, non managed VPS shouldn't be an issue. Or else you'll need to rely on managed VPS.

Hosting company cheap ones are really a pain.i lost my domain as well, though part my mistake. But hacked four times, down endless times deter the enthusiasm.

True. But I am still hopeful that I will get something which will be just what I want.

I am using Namecheap hosting. You can host 3 normal blogs for around Rs 480 something per year.

Shrivant - I am definitely going to look at Namecheap. Seems really cheap. Thanks alot!

Shrivant, I just checked Namecheap and I did not find any option which is 480/- year. What I fond was a basic plan which costs Rs. 650+ per year and that too ONLY for the first year. Also, as far as I could figure out, you cannot use domain registered with any other provider. My domains are regstered with GoDaddy for long term :-(

Am I missing anything? Can you please give us more details as to how are you getting it for 480 and that too per year?
