* During disasters (terrorism, earthquake, flood, scarcity, industrial accidents etc.) the press media always create humbk. * To make the news sensational they cross every limit. They obstruct the officials in performing their duties, infringe the constitutional rights of a citizen, violet personal privacy and open the secrets related to law & order, security & defense. * During last Mumbai blast case the Press opened every move of police that's why the 3 brave police officers were shot at by terrorists.

@ Zombie - True, but thats the part these guys are thrilled about even before joining the Army. Not every one joins the army. Hats off to those NSG guys.

Damn think about it. Its not like a game, where you get shot, you can take life and get back to shooting. One shot at the wrong place and your dead. Respect!

@ Zeon : I must admit though it was fun to watch the media for a while.. but when the reality of the situation dawned on me I felt really bad.. imagine what the families of the army personnel would have gone through??

Seeing their son hiding behind a jeep.. shooting at the terrorists... hell! people will never encourage their kids to enlist in the army after that!

A Watched over media is going to be a problem again. What you don't want to see, I'm sure there are people who are interested in it. Its good that media does not have control, but the shame is that they misuse it. They manipulate data for more popularity of the channel and that has caused a situation where we really cannot believe what the media is saying.

For example during the Mumbai insident, one of the channels were literally accusing the police for not letting them near the Taj hotel. I'm sure police were more focused on evacuvating the area, irrespective of whether they are press or public.

@ Edgy : Absolutely right!! even if it was someone very close to me who was caught in the crossfire.. i wouldnt want to see that person shot on live TV! WTH???  Dont know if the media had their hearts or their brains in the right place!

Well, I am one all for a little bit of "watching" over the media. But as always in society - how much is too much?

But certainly thought that the media were spreading too much FUD during the Mumbai siege...

i absolutely disagree.

those drawn towards media and the arts are in no way inferior to the 'doctors' and 'engineers' in society. some ethical allegagtions made in this discussion hold true but attacking a media person's intellect is totally uncalled for. they're just following orders from hierarchy. isn't that what people in all fields do? do what they're told by those who pay them? the field of media is no different from that of engineering or medicine. at the end of the day we're all being groomed to follow orders and pass the buck onto others in a crisis.

It's very true that media in India plays as an enemy instead of being friend to the person, public or nation. It is also true that no talented student choose the carrier of press correspondent. The best brains becomes adminitrators, doctors and engineers , then advocates, reachers or clercks and the the worst goes to politics, journalism, film industry or sports. Exceptions are there but they proove the rule. the press correspondents are in general of low intelligent quotient, they themselves can not understand what is right and what is wrong? Once joining they become important in the eyes of public. They blackmail the officials and after getting benefitted give publicity to the politicians. They have no ethical values. Without understanding the probs and corns of showing a news they release it just to become first in doing so. Hence, some censor is a must.

Specially in the period of crises every news should be censored and only those news should be allwed which is harmless and in the iterest of the country.

It is high time time that Indian media requires a Watch dog, what a shame!!! We need proper laws that define the media's rights and duties...along with some kind of real time regulatory action so that the media can be immediately stopped if it is doing anything that may endanger or encroach upon people's lives. Also the media needs to smarten up and provide quality material and not meaningless crap, they need to provide accurate data and proper analysis of all events/incidents covered by them.

it's difficult to debate the media's effectiveness as far as their role in society goes. they have no ethics... that's for sure! tracking the terrorist's every move like a CCTV was crazy not to mention an extremely stupid move. did anyone think through that? is anyone thinking through that today? bringing us 'live scenes' was good... but recycling the same footage to increase panic and pressure? they all do it... they've all done it and will continue to do it.
