We commnets on lot of blogposts in our daily life, but do we visit them the next or the same day to check the reply of Blog owner on it ?
Dunno about the "irrelevant", but "pointless waste of time" may be relevant
Yes... hence we won't waste our time and stick to blogspot till we develop Alzheimer one day (unfortunately if...)
Blogger is bad. Wordpress is equally bad.
A custom CMS built using Java EE to suit your needs is the best.
Few (one) thing which cannot be done in Wordpress:
Using same slug for two posts

You have to build it yourself. Currently, I am tried to build one for my CS site [self promotion ]

Hunky custom = custom, not something that you can download and install like wp or blogger ( Not just java but any custom cms that suits your needs )
When it all starte,d WP was also a custom project but slowly it grew and people started using it hence it became a publicly available software for web publishing !!
What you are saying is you, your self developing one website only for your self.. Well, in that regards, I would use dreamwaver and design and keep publishing one as statis

Joomla and Drupal, anyone?
They are even better than WordPress but only in modification and customization.. But somehow lacks the simplicity needed to woo the users to start using them and build up a Dummies community which wordpress have done..
Total newbie about website and blogs can start with WP but just reading few tutorial and following the guide with eyes closed.. That is not the case with Drupal, Joomla or such CMS.. They miss out on this..
And Wordpress for the real deal
Yup - with bioth Joomla and Drupal, it helps if you're an adminny type..
