Kolkata Bloggers: Voice your opinion!

Well, right from the day i have joined indiblogger, I have realized that Kolkata is a territory that has been neglected for every possible indiblogger event or meets.

The reasons could be manifold:

1. Not enough bloggers in the city

2. Not much of interest in such events

3. Sponsors not interested to conduct these meets in Kolkata

There can be many more....

I would like you- Kolkata bloggers to come ahead and express your views...Why is it that Delhi or Mumbai is ALWAYS in the FOCUS of attention? What do you feel? Is there something that we can do to make this possible?

Vent your thoughts out here; suggestions appreciated.

Ready for the meet! Just want the date in advance to make sure to attend!

I think most of the corporates would prefer Mumbai, Delhi or Bangalore and Chennai happens to be Indiblogger headquarters. That is why meets do not happen in any other cities.

I think bloggers from every city are self organized on facebook. Couple of years back we had an event called Indian Bloggers League. That event had some controversies but it helped bloggers of different cities network and organize themselves. Pune probably had a community even before that. For Bangalore the Facebook group formed then is still active and private meets happen.

Kolkatta also had a group formed then. Not sure if they are still active and networking.

By the way, I usually skip the official Indi Meets and more often attend the private bloggers meet.

Bro...we'll arrange for a Kolkata meet soon enough...but then Indi should also 'look' up to the City of Joy! I strongly feel that!

I second Sriram on that - very well said.

This seems a nice idea... Smile

I think I would second Animesh's idea. To take it further, I am pretty sure you have a couple of bloggers in your Facebook friend list from Calcutta. You can always have a informal meet in one of the coffee shops at a designated time and place.

I do agree that too many of the meets happen in Mumbai and Delhi but I would suggest that you have one unfettered by a sponsor because it gives a far more personal feel to the event :).

I see the last post here was a month ago...Wakey wakey people.

It would be great to have a bloggers meet in Calcutta.. and  I suppose we can have an outdoor venue and winter months are best in that case. Just a thought Smile

Sammya: Though I am not in kolkata at present, I would love to be a part of Kolkata Bloggers meet in December (if it is after 15th) I can contact some of my friends there and get us a nice and cheap(if not sponsered) place to gather and interact. We can also do sme contribution and initiate an indimeet all by ourselves like Animesh suggested. Do let me know your take on this, connecting with you so we can talk on Indimail too. :)

Sounds good Shantanu. Lets see if we can get more bloggers to respond here :)

I can vouch from experience that Mumbai & Delhi do get the best focus when it comes to events, promos & contests!

1 is the Entertainment & Financial Capital, while the other is the National Capital. Consequently the Cultural Capital-Kolkata & other metros & mini-metros coveniently lose out the race!

Even after getting 'shortlisted' for some BIG national contests (not IB ones!), when I didn't win & found that the Winner was from Mumbai/Delhi, I consoled myself that the sponsors made this choice as the Prize had to be availed from those cities or the Foreign-Trip was from the International Airports there! Smile

I agree with NSV & Ranjith that it's Sponsors convenience.

True that having an Eastern-India address, can win me (autographed) T-shirts/Mugs & many times nothing at all! Sealed

Have been so looking forward to attend an IB Meet in Kolkata. All IndiBloggers of Eastern India can plan too! I have often tweeted to IB, "When will we have an IB meet in Kolkata/Eastern India?...Wanna Attend!"

Great that SB has voiced this. I agree with SB-

"An indi meet or a declaration could do a world of good; and KOLKATA certainly needs one big event from the indi front...just to bridge the gap!"

Indeed Anita...thanks for expressing your views.

I think we needed to discuss this sooner than later...

SM As far as I know, if a meet is featured on the home page, then it is sponsored by some company. Otherwise, it is the bloggers who take the lead. They either pool money or hunt for some small sponsor, probably with some assistance from IB.

So, as others have said, you can take the lead and plan an IndiMeet. Laughing

And regarding Mumbai and Delhi, most of the IndiTeam members are from Mumbai and Delhi, so they may find it convenient to organise the meets in one of the two  cities. Sealed

There are 2 ways to look at it Ranjith...."

1. Similar scenario's happen in corporate firms and I presume they are not ready to move "out of their base location"- Extremely undesirable for a website encouraging PAN India content ;)

2. Yes, of course, we can....but I can't really, somehow, digest the fact that none of the sponsors are interested in doing it in the "myriad of the east" ; and indiblogger can OF COURSE, put this view forward. There lies the key, because, I presume....they always suggest Delhi and mumbai by default! The problem we ME, getting my personal co-ordination into the picture is the reach. I CERTAINLY can't reach so many bloggers across the city....I know just a few of them.

An indi meet or a declaration could do a world of good; and KOLKATA certainly needs one big event from the indi front...just to bridge the gap!
