Getting published in newspapers

We've got bloggers in huge numbers on IndiBloggers and getting exposed to such a big platform is what I believe 'TREMENDOUS' for each one of us. I've also seen some members of IB getting published in newspapers, could someone tell me how exactly does a blog post get selected? I'm sure some other new members would also be willing to ask the same question.

We could also suggest magazines/newspapers and other such sources which accept blogs from their readers because reaching to a wide audience is the dream of every writer, we all want readers in good numbers to read what we're writing and criticism/appreciation is naturally what we anxiously await for on our blog posts. Would love to know medians to get published, cheers! :)
