Do you think Print Media Industry change??
In the last couple of years wealth of information have become available in Blogs, e-magazine. In fact, I am a vivid reader of Busines & economic magazines and used to purchase about 2 to 3 business mags in a month. But, in the last six month (particularly) after I had started blogging, I rarely purchase hardcopy of business Magazine, however I do visit their e-magazine and in most case its available in the net for free of charge on net.
Interestingly, in US couple of magazine/New paper have wound up their operation, due to reduction in circulation & advertisement in hardcopy of the magazine.
So, do you foresee a change in this industry?.
You don't seem to have caught my drift.
When internet penetration in India reaches the level of villages, the metropolitan areas where the national dailies are read, will finally be at a level of internet usage that can sustain the current paper dailies to go online and leave the printing presses to print regional dailies.
In todays scenario, people even in the metros are not comfortable using the internet for anything important. Only the newer generation is comfortable doing things like paying bills online and buying products online. Once the rest of the population also starts doing these basic things on the internet, will we be able to see newspapers go completely online.
Hiker, thanks for your continued response on the topic.
You are spot on, even that is my thought. I am not saying the print media will undergo a change immediately, the change may happen over the period of time. Probably, the effect would be more, once internet becomes more and more mobile based.
For now, I believe, its more focused on the present generation who are in metro and who use internet widely. Any different thoughts?
Hiker, Rural India is an altogether different segment. These could be local language magazines and I don't think they will get hit and more importantly circulation will be limited within certain region.
I am taking about national level english New paper and Magazines, has blogger community reduced purchase of Magazines due to internet, blogging and availablility of free e-magazine versions.? OR is it still same?.
Not very soon in India. Internet penetration and awareness in India is quite less. Only once people in the villages start using the internet on a daily basis, will the people in the cities be internet literate enough to chuck the newspapers and magazines.
