A little confusion in domain registration....Need your help.
Hi, I want to register a domain but in that domain there is "INDIA". So my question is what do I have to prefer a .com or .in in view of SEO.
@Aditya Dey ya you are right!!!
Go with '.com' and have 'india' as a part of the domain name. The issue is, many people in India may not remember '.in' domain name. So, if they want to come back to your site, they will most probably type 'domain name' + '.com'
And don't worry too much about SEO. Those things keep changing with every algorithm update.
Thanks but what about my name+someword.com ?
why don't you go for org or net or info
Yes, why not ?? better by an extension which gives best possible match I suppose
.in / .com doesnt matter now days anymore.. register which ever gives you best possible match..
Yep agree with Hunky
What do you think if I use myname+some word.com then it will sound good or not?
It will definitely sound good. But ensure that it doesn't become too long. Short names sound good.
Let me tell you something regarding domain names:
- If you are looking for traffic from search engines, then having some tech-words in the domain name is good from SEO point of view for getting results as soon as possible.
- You can also choose a domain name that sounds attractive and intelligent. This looks much better than a domain tailored for SEO but you need to be patient while expecting traffic from search engines.
I can't say that whatever I told about SEO is 100 % accurate. You might have to confirm with a SEO expert to verify the accuracy of my claims.
Or wait for a few more days. Some other IndiBloggers will give their opinion.
Bro, dont waste money, first read all these blogging blogs, there are really some nice article on how to chose a right domain for you.. So read first then you can have an idea as which words to keep..
- AAA, they say 3 letter domains are really good, infact so good I dont think anything left for anyone to buy
- Then comes 4 letter domains.. Once again really hard to find one..
- Next in line are the popular dictionary words with less letters, like 5/6 or such , based on specific niche, but then again everything seems booked..
- Avoid "-" in domain..
- Search search and search..
- Read more about domain selection
Think many times before selecting a name since its one time process , you cant fix it if you go wrong here
I was not really asking him to hire a SEO expert. It was meant to be a joke.
.com so you mean to say I need to change the name of my blog?
If the website / blog is targeted towards Indians, I would go for .in otherwise .com. This looks good from the view of SEO as well as users.
- A user seeing the .in would understand that the site has been created specifically for Indians.
- The same applies for search engines. In fact, you can target Indians with .com also with appropriate settings in Google Webmaster Tools.
Thanks... SO I think that the INDIA in between the domain will also atract indians. And my site is not fully targeted towards Indians [only some posts].
If I were in your place, I would not be using India as a part of my domain name as the blog will contain even those posts that are not specifically written for Indians. Just think : If you are presented with two links - one .com and one .ca - which one will you viist?
@Ranjith..
- My blog is a .com TLD yet 90% of my visitors are Indians
- All the riders club / touring clubs are having .com domain, yet their members are Indian only
Now days it hardly matters as which TLD you are using
The TLD hardly matters but still it is not bad to choose a domain that speaks for itself. For example, it looks better if a non profit organisation chooses .org instead of .com. Now, this doesn't mean that choosing .com is bad.
I think all indibloggers are taking nap :D I 'll come later.....
@Ranjith, you do know I am technologically-challenged blogger, don't you? And so I thought I should keep my counsel to myself
@ Pankti Voicing your opinion doesn't do any harm. In fact, it enhances the diversity of the answers.
.

Isn't today a working day?
I said the above thing forgetting the fact that IB's like Pankti do multitasking - office work + IB Chat / Forum
@Ranjith...it's quite true...had I been just working, I would have fainted from boredom long back
I used to read news...in fact, I read Reuters, TOI, WSJ, London's FT and many more.
Yeah...i am a voracious reader and I read little bit speedily
BTW, how is your vacation going?
Fine with IB Forum, Contests, Computer Science, The Hindu and Java
I still have 45 days of vacation left.
@Ranjith, I envy you...
My vacation started just 20 days back - 15th May. So, the vacation is not as big as you are thinking it to be.
Now, let me tell you something - During my Intermediate 1st and 2nd year, the timings were 7:30 am to 8:30 pm and for around four or five months, the timings were 6:00 am to 10:00 pm.
@Ranjith, believe me you don't want to hear my schedule
I've seen you mentioning on IndiTalk that you used to sleep for just 4 hours so that you can balance your studies and office work. Your life story is worth listening!
@Ranjith, it's nothing worth listening...I was just a masochist (and sometimes I still am)
