Hey! I don't think of not winning in these contests as losing. Everyone knows that each contest is judged on yardsticks set by the sponsors/judges. It is a near impossible task to assess varying posts - poetry, essays, short stories, photos, multi-media etc. - of varying genres - humor, serious, scary etc. - and come to a perfect conclusion about who were the best. And judges - being human - are fallible. The most that you can expect is that the winning posts are also good - there is no need to think of the losing posts as not having measured up.

The only time I was upset abt a results declaration was when the sponsor chose to write a letter stating the equivalent of 'posts that won were much better than posts that did not'. That, in my opinion, is an idiotic statement for anyone to make since judging this sort of variegated creative output must necessarily be imprecise.
