ASIA CUP March 2012 - Discussion Thread
India embark on a 3 game group stage to face their Asian friends (or not!) in the once-in-two-years tournament, The Asia Cup. All matches taking place at the Sher-e-Bangla stadium in Mirpur, Bangladesh.
India will face:
- Sri Lanka (again) on March 13, Tuesday. / Ind won by 50 runs
- Bangladesh (hosts) on March 16, Friday. | Ind lost by 5 wickets
- Pakistan (arch-rivals) on March 18, Sunday. | Ind won by 5 wickets
And if they end up top two, they'll be in the finals. Can the Men in (Light)Blue put up a solid performance? They are the defending champions of the tournament, having won the last edition in 2010.
The squad: MSD (capt), V.Kohli (vc), S.Tendulkar, S.Raina, Rohit Sharma, G.Gambhir, M.Tiwary, Y.Pathan, I.Pathan, R.Jadeja, R.Ashwin, Rahul Sharma, P.Kumar, R.V.Kumar, A.Dinda
20-3-2012: India are now out of the tournament.
22-3-2012: Bangladesh v/s Pakistan in the finals.
Reason: update
has India gone to the finals then??
It depends on today's match . If SL wins , then India is thru or else its out .
Finally SL scores 100 ...... batting looking very slow .....
One more goes .... 120/4 ........ pretty ordinary batting performance SL.....
Steadys 158/4 of 38 overs . Atleast 100 required from last 12overs .
Thank you DS ............
oooh happy blog b'day Dhiraj! :)
Thank you Kriti
that is unfortunate, but if Bangladesh are playing out of their skins to qualify, then they deserve it too. I'm not supporting either team today. I'll cheer the one who wins.
I think I should try something... GO SRI LANKA! (waitin for results now)
Somehow Sri Lanka went down without much of fight, they are fatigued after a long Aussie tour, similarly India too is out. Let us watch the finals
The 600th reply to this thread. The most I've cherished.. this one says, "Adios India". You played well in the tournament, merited a final spot... but that one loss, I felt which was unneeded.. it was what made you come undone. Even a bonus point v/s Pak might've helped...
To any fan of Indian team in my office tomorrow who dare cross me with the words, "Bangladesh were lucky, they dint deserve to win"... or "Sri Lanka fixed the match so India missed the finals", I'll strangle you. Bangladesh deserved it. I took leave on Friday to watch their match, I saw them play Pakistan on last Sunday, and also watched their innings today. They never gave up on their dream to reach the final. Kudos to them, and it comes from a very staunch supporter of India, me.
Banglas, no more are you minnows in cricket.
Bangaladesh played really well , yesterday watched their entire inning on tv yesterday .... Hope they give good fight in Finals . Good to see minnows raising for the occasions .
Big finals for Bangladesh , hope they make it large ..... My money on Bangladesh .
Pakistan struggling ........ 93/4 of 28 overs ......
Pakistan should win ultimately
But i want Bangla to win .....
five wicket goes done
Sixth wicket goes down ...... PAk 133/6 come on Bangla wrap the inning within 170......
171/6 from 40 overs come on Bangla , come on .......
Afridi requires 2 more six to become first batsman in ODi history to hit 300 sixes
Afridi goes ...... He has to wait till the next series ......
yes ....... They should get this target .....
Steady start by Bangla ........26/0 from 7 overs
Steady batting 46 /0 from 13 overs ........ Quite different approach compared to SL match , where they went Bang bang .....
Bangla lost two quick wickets ......... But imp is Tamim is still there ...... He is been very consistent from them through out this series . Four continuous 50's ..... Great job
Shakib is also in good form ......
BANGLA WON ASIA CUP 2012 :P
AFGHANISTAN won ASIA CUP 2013 :D
DK, Asia Cup is once in two years... and Afghanistan do not contest in Asia Cup as yet. It's between the 4 test playing countries...
LOL :) i dont know that :D
Kind of game that AFghans play, it is way ahead than Indians :D
Ban 70/2 from 20 overs ....... Reqd 167 from 30 overs ......
Probably find of the series for Bangla and World cricket .....
Tamim is out ............
Yeah... two more of the spin trio left to face though.. Hafeez and Ajmal. the latter is very tricky..
YEP:( above 7 :( Bangla shud win :D
@DK, I wish so too. 4 batsmen.. it all hinges around Shaqib, Nasir, Rahim and Mahmudullah... and to a lesser extent, Mortaza.
