Australia series beckons Team India now. Its a very important away series after they were beaten 4-0 in England. What should be the

  • team selection
  • pre match strategies
  • who should play, who dropped
  • live scores, commentary
  • results discussion, etc..

We have been whitewashed again, really has been a pathetic performance by team India.

Will the ODI's give something to cheer about??

Congratulations Clark 313 seems to be going strong, i hope he does not trouble Indians in future games, now he will start getting benefit of doubt for LBW from umpires like Ponting the punter.

Wow , net practising continues . Now Australia knows if their batsmen are struggling for form , call India for a series , Rest we are witnessing . We are good at giving Catch practise and Net practise .

Finally declared  End of net practise ,now catch practise begins . Now pitch will automatically turn into bowlers pitch .

Cant agree with you more on your last lines, now the pitch will turn and bounce and the ball will seam and swing!

I think Dhoni did a serious mistake by choosing to bat on day 1. Now wickets will fall due to the devil in their minds rather than the devil on the pitch. The players should give up thoughts of saving match and bat freely without pressure- Sachin should complete his century, Laxman should save his place in the team with a century and just take things as they come. No will blame them for losing the match from this stage.

Best thing what i like about clarke is not being selfish and playing for records , with still 2 and half  days left in the test match , he could have easily made 400 runs .  Good he want to win not pile up records , like most of our players do, play for records don't even care for about winning .

I hope the Australians are not doing some funny business with the pitch. On the first day, both Australians and Indians lost wickets. Today, except for Sehwag, both Australians and Indians are batting. Tomorrow if suddenly wickets start tumbling, I would suspect foul play.

A loud message should be sent to those who take their place granted in the Indian side, i feel Rohit Sharma should come in place of Dravid, Yousuf Pathan should come in place of V V S Laxman, who can bowl too, Sreesanth should come in place of Ishant, this would definitely send the message loud and clear that once selected team can always be changed in the interest of the country.  Virat Kohli should be treated on final leg for proving himself.  My conviction with the prevailing test rules is that it is an opportunity for a batsmen out of form to come back into form because there is no pressure of run rate.  Another angle which needs to be probed is whether Gaddar Greg has leaked all the weakness of the players whom he coached.  LolzSmile

Hello DS i feel India requires 3 different teams for 3 different format in the long run, now the current team feels that they have played too much cricket and they want a break.  In the midst of tour they are going for a picnic, whereas Australian team is practising.  I feel it is a ruse to get away from Media glare.Smile

DS

@ Umesh We already have different teams as Dravid, Laxman, Sachin dont play 20-20... Completely different teams are not possible... Some players will be common.
DS

@ Dhiraj The IPL was fun, but it has long ceased to fun... The way BCCI arm twists other boards about player participation and all is disgusting to watch. Players themselves are torn between playing for country and money...
Leo

I support RCB in IPL of course. Being a Bangalorean, I watch them play and cheer them. But to blame IPL for the demise of the Indian team down under (or in the England tour for that matter) is hardly a solution to the ignominy that has befallen the World champions. It happens once a year, a month at max, and it has been now 9 months since the event last happened. It is a money hounder, and the way BCCI ravishes it and blackmails other boards to let their main players feature is wrong, and that can be omitted I feel.

DS
from Mumbai
Leo, even I watched the first 2 editions with lots of interest but then it all fizzled out. They keep increasing the number of teams, the number of matches increase... Its close to 2 months almost that it goes on now... You dont even remember who won the last night, there are so many matches... Even our players are fit and ready to play it everytime missing tours which happen after the IPL for rest... Then they get injured or completely seem to have lost form and touch in the next tour...
Sankar
Sankar

well all for the money :) seems Indians have lost interest in winning matches now , maybe the series win over England at home was cause they couldn't cope up with Indian conditions. What ever happened to the so called best team in the world? If this happened a few years ago , you could've said Austrailia was almost invincible then , but now ...., shameful .....

Leo

I don't understand the logic. The team fails, on the whole, and though the "magic figure" (and I use that term loosely) of 400 was reached, there was a "for 10" that succeeded it which goes sort of unnoticed by a lot. Again, the scapegoat is Virat Kohli, and though he didnt perform at all in the match as required, save a finger to God-knows-who in the crowd, I think even Gambhir didn't play well. At the end of the third day's play, there was not a run scored from the bat for nearly 9 or 10 overs. People were wondering what was going on, why they're not scoring... the best part of those ten overs was that a top-form pace battery of the Aussies were denied a wicket. If the same thing continued for the next day too, even if the world record for least runs in a test-match day was to be taken by India, the test match could have been saved right? Dravid and VVS did bat a whole day without giving their wickets in Indian conditions, even the remotest possibility should have been taken into consideration....

I dont like this pace battery of ours too now, when it comes to that. I say axe Ishant, get in Irfan Pathan. Aussie conditions are helping swing, and I do believe Irfan Pathan was one of the best swing exponents in the pace battery earlier.. I'd say Pravin, but he's not fully fit and I dont like to see him get further injured. Irfan would give a batting option too, and Ashwin can be the lone spinner again. With batting, I think both Gambhir and Kohli should be axed. A fifty does not say I'm back in form, dont ignore me. The way he was batting on start of 2nd innings, I thought that India was determined to make it a three day test and take a two day picnic at the Opera House. I think it needs to be put as a message that Indian team comes first and no player is an automatic selection.

Team: Rahane, Sehwag, Dravid, Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Ashwin, Zaheer, Yadav, (Irfan or Sreesanth or Pravin if fit or Vinay Kumar)

DS
from Mumbai

Irfan Pathan and Munaf would have been ideal I think, just nibbling the ball in and around the off stump all the time. Yes, even Gambhir too batted poorly but he has been a regular member of this Indian side for the past 2-3 years and so he will not be dropped especially after getting a decent score. On the other hand, Virat, though a magnificient ODI player has not done anything of note in his test career till now of about 10 tests... So Rohit should replace him. And we need to show more energy on the field, to keep motivating each other even when the going is tough.

i don't know much, but I salute clarke on his performance, the zeal, the zing, kudos to him, and his team. three cheers to him.

i know ds will be hyper on me, but one has to appreciate the appreciable.

Leo

I agree Virat is in woeful form and needs to be changed.. but, DS, I raise the question directly, why this "regular player" partiality? Isn't it team first and then the player? if the player's form is hindering the team, put him out.. send the message to him that u keep ur form, then u keep ur place. If you go hyper on me also, I am not mindful, but I say even if it is the legendary Mr. Tendulkar itself out of form, give him a rest.. There are players who are talented with the ball and the blade both in Indian domestic cricket.. Give them the chance.. if you keep putting the same players in every time, even if they're in or out of form, then what was the need to replace Jaffer and Aakash Chopra etc when they were playing? They were "regular players" too that time..

Regards the bowling, still its not late.. its only Tuesday.. fly Irfan Pathan and Munaf there, get rid of who needs to be given off.. put the TEAM before a player, be it regular or debutant..

Leo
from Bengaluru

PL, I agree.. it was a masterful knock and I stand to give him an ovation that he deserves.. I was expecting Clarke to go to 400 too, and Hussey to 200.. They could have done it and still defeated a lacklustre India in 4 days.. but he put the team's winning chances before his personal milestone and I applaud him for that too.

DS
from Mumbai

@ Leo You are right Leo, that past laurels are not to be a parameter for selection. But as they say Form is Temporary, Class is Permanent. You cannot drop a high class player who has shown he has potential and has performed under pressure if he fails for a couple of matches. Every player has a lean patch, be it batsman or bowler. But when a younger player gets an opportunity he must grab it with both hands because as you said there are scores of talented people waiting in the wings who can take your place. I agree with you that Gambhir must have been dropped/ rested but after he scraps through for a 50, do you think its right to drop him at that point? We must blood Pujara, Badrinath, Rahane, Rohit in the near future.

@ P What Clarke has done has to be applauded with whole heart because making a 300 requires immense concentration. And then to declare not chasing personal milestones makes his achievement even more special. I am not the sort of a cricket fan who does not appreciate good performances, far from it actually. Loved the way he batted. Loved the way under fire Ponting and Hussey came up with the goods.

Whatta performance...

Sehwag got a good ball. Dravid was bowled again. Tendulkar played across the line. Gambhir pushed away from his body (yet again!). Kohli threw it away. Laxman got a good ball. Dhoni gave catch practice. That is the summary of the Indian batting performance. Yes, it is the WACA. Yes, there was grass. But this was still a good wicket to bat on.

India 161 in 60 overs odd.. Australia 148 without loss in 20 overs..  Dismal, shameful, uncoordinated.. Idiotic.. Shocking.. and its no use blaming the pitch.. if Aussie pacers can get India all out, why cant our pacers do the same? Gutted. If India survive 3 days at this form, I think the likeliness of the world as we know it to end would only increase. Why wasn't more changes made? Rohit and Rahane have been put in team to play when the others are out of form and need a break. They should have been used. It was anyhow an unwinnable series. I support MSD's decision to retire from tests.. but I urge him to do it after this test and not wait till 2013.

I too support that Dhoni should retire from this series onwards so that he paves for someone who has passion for test cricket.  Let the selectors take the hint and ensure that a new captain for test team is picked for next two years.
