Australia series beckons Team India now. Its a very important away series after they were beaten 4-0 in England. What should be the

  • team selection
  • pre match strategies
  • who should play, who dropped
  • live scores, commentary
  • results discussion, etc..

We have been whitewashed again, really has been a pathetic performance by team India.

Will the ODI's give something to cheer about??

4 match series, recollecting the humiliating losses we have suffered in Oz, I thought this was the best time to turn the tide, but... Frown

When would we defeat Oz 4-0 or 5-0 in Oz? I would love to die that day after seeing that Wink

DS

Yeah this was a good time to turn the tide but we just lost the plot... abhi as Santosh pointed out, its a 4 match series.

I'm sure there is many opinions on the result above this reply which I post. I've not read yet, thought I'd put my disappointment first.

In cricket, losses are normal, and I'm not sad that we lost. It happens. It saddens me that having 145 overs atleast, chasing down a target of 292 at just over 2 runs an over wasn't possible. I don't blame the bowlers, not a bit. Umesh Yadav esp. impressed me, and I was sad that he didn't get the fiver he deserved in the second innings. Seeing the way the men in blue went about the chase was appalling. Such high strike rates.. I was at one moment contemplating that it was a T20, seeing how Ashwin and Zaheer, even Sachin were hitting the shots. Virat for a golden duck??! but, even with MSD and Ashwin batting, I was hopeful of the recovery, but alaas, not to be.

They didn't win the match acc. to me, we handed to them the win on a platter. I pray for better result at the SCG, but they need composure in the fourth innings..  Changes are afoot perhaps, but I'd retain the same team. We played well in three innings, but lost it in the fourth when it mattered. That's it. No one player can be placed blame I feel.

DS
from Mumbai

True! Very true... Except that we need stability in first innings as well... We lost the last 8 wickets for 62, that lost us the game... Also Virat has struggled big time on fast bouncy pitches, I think we can try Rohit... Or how about playing a 5th bowler instead of him and pushing Ashwin up, he batted well...
Leo
from Bengaluru

OK. Stability in batting.. overall.. thats needed. Virat has struggled, but he's now faced the pace battery of Australia in a match. He also scored a century in the practice match right? One match in, you alter the team, the balance might be lost I feel. I voting for the same team. A fifth bowler? Who'd you bring in from the squad to face them? Vinay Kumar, or Mithun? Not a bad idea, but then again, did we need a fifth bowler in the Melbourne match? Bowlers played well, Yadav esp. and how can we know the six batsman, viz VS,GG,RD,ST,VVS,MSD would play well? Ahswin is just settling in as the all rounder types IMO. If Irfan was there, it'd have been useful.. could've shifted Virat for Irfan and got a decent batsman and bowler, players with batting capability till the 8th slot.

Leo
from Bengaluru

If truth be told, I'd try replacing Gambhir with Rahane or Saha. He's struggling more than Virat I feel.

DS
from Mumbai
Yeah you are right on the 5th bowler Leo. We did not need him at the moment, bowlers did a good job in both innings. But they must not lose focus and intensity when early wickets go down... See Kohli is a good player, he got a century in the tour match but he got a duck there as well... Rohit has been in very good form, I wanted him in the team from the start... Lets see what the team management decides...
DS

And I doubt they will replace Gambhir!!! But he is struggling for runs big time for a long time now...

The way India's Experienced Batting line up collapsed twice Vs the Young Aussie bowling line up was just so disappointing to watch... Considering that Australia were without their top bowlers, to see this happening to our famed Batting line up was really sad Frown

But its a game, I hope that in the coming year, they can take the field with a +ve frame of ming,  come back with the cup and make us all proud Smile Let's cheer them and hope for the best to come!

Basically Indians are slow starters on overseas tours going by the track record.  I feel the media has to take off the pressure on Sachin for his 100th hundred and focus on winning Test series in Australia.  Dravid seems to having vision problem according to me, both the innings he was bowled between the gates.  I am happy that Indian bowling has come upto the expectation.  Now the fabled batting prowess has to be exploited.  I hope Laxman, Virat and Dhoni come to party.  I am sure at Sydney it will be a better team, with the team keeping off from Media bytes, the bat has to do the talking after all.  Goodluck guys

What's wrong with our famed batting line up? They seem lost at the moment Innocent They really need to catch on their nerves and show some mettle if we are to stay in the game.

DS

I think its lack of application... You have to stay at the crease for atleast 25-30 balls, to get your eye in... And better footwork when the ball moves... The pitches in Australia are not like the Indian roads!

really sad seeing the fate of the Indian batting line-up , how pitiful a performance :)  the batsman failing miserably yet again

what is wrong with them , the match is going to the wrong side :) , now only a miracle can save India from loosing this one aswell :) , will be lucky if the series is drawn , well the match is far from over but with the present form , its already over :(

We should appreciate the Indian team's large heart. They are always there to help opposition team's out of form players to regain form and for tailender bowlers to become all rounders.

Wish they display the same large heart towards their country men as well with their money.

TF Carthick

I think Dhoni's stupidity was choosing to bat inspite of curator saying first day will help fast bowlers and rest of the days it will be a batting pitch. Nothing stupid with how he is  managing the bowling. Once team got bolwed out for less than 200 and opposition has comforatble crossed 400, no chance to win. It would be waste getting our fast bowlers unecessarily whacked in long Australian innings. They will again get injured and miss next matches as well. So better idea to bowl fast bowlers and try to delay Australian declaration.

TF Carthick
from Bangalore

Correction  - I mean bowl part timers. Typed fast bowlers by mistake.

DS
from Mumbai
I agree but at the start of the day you have to bring on your best bowlers... If that does not work you can shift to plan B, C, D...
TF Carthick
from Bangalore

Whats the point anyways - Beyond a certain points, wickets don't help. As well go through the motions and wait for the declaration. Just keep the bowlers from getting injured, let the batsman bat freely and get some batting practice and prepare for next match. Smartness lies in knowing when you have lost and cutting losses instead of irrationally trying to win a lost match.

DS
from Mumbai
Isnt it a bowlers job to bowl!! They are paid for that!! And Sehwag bowled about 15 overs even yesterday!!! Umesh, Ashwin, Ishant are all in their 20's, if they cant bowl 20 overs in a day then GOOD LUCK to India for the future... *Yes, I know I am a bit harsh*
TF Carthick
from Bangalore

@DS- But on a batting wicket with batsmen in form, do you think worth making Umesh, Zak and Ishant take so much load. When wickets are falling and follow on is happening, maybe worth getting top bowlers bowl 20 or even 30 overs a day. But not for a lost cause. I would say totally not bring these 3 guys on at all. Give the ball to Sachin Tendulkar as well and just bide your time.

DS
from Mumbai
Dont our batsmen need to be fresh when they go out trying to save the game? They have been fielding for close to 2 days now...
