DISQUS - How good is it?
I have disqus commenting form on my blog. But recently, while accessing others blogs i realised how painfully slow it can be to load.
What do you, Indibloggers think??
RESTLESS
Oh. Back here again.. with another discovery :P Disqus widget usually we place at the last of the blog in layout. So, the blog being opened in widget order in HTML, it gets opened last. Hence the time to load.. If you place it near the first, the Disqus loads faster.
I mean, place it not last, but not first. Maybe the third or fourth widget after the "big box" of post in blogger layout (assuming a 2 column template with right sidebar).
I think Intense Debate is better than disqus. In case, you wish to go back to your old blogger commenting system, you can do so without losing any comments made while your blog was on disqus. It also has a commnet luv plugin where you can reward your users with a free link to their latest blog post.
But to keep things as simple as possible, blogger commenting system is the best. :-)
Oh.. and I thought I'll add on.. if the Disqus doesn't load at times, the normal comment form of blogger can still be accessed by readers. It happens at times with my blog pals too. You can import the recent comments which happen like that into the disqus any time. It doesn't take time and ur comments that aren't coming to disqus can still be seen in Disqus ;)
Arti, comment luv is part of Intensedebate, as I understand it through the giglogo tutorial. IDB box is also similar to disqus itself. And a lot of times, it doesn't accept comments or loses it too. I've seen it being used by my friends, and tried it once myself..
wondering, is this debate on disqus showing blogger comment form to be more widely acceped and better? ;)
1: Easy to set up
2: Easy to customize a theme (I had a very tough time themeing Disqus)
3: Livefyre can import your old comments and sync with commenting system. This way - you can have all the comments inplace even if you stop using Livefyre.
4: It is new in the market and they've been continuously upgrading it to compete against Disqus.
Let me know if you want any more info.
@Tushar : I just googled LiveFyre and on the face of it i didn't find it very different from Disqus. Can you tell me the difference between the two?
My suggestion: Use LiveFyre, I am liking it more than Disqus.
I think there is some issue with your connection as it has never taken me so long:( and have not received any complaint so far.
Alas! I am losing a precius comment:( from a blogger whom I adore completely
Animesh, that's really kind of you for saying that about me : ) Wasn't blogging much all these months.. and have now again got some time, so checked ur blog :) Will try to comment for another place later.
@Restless, I have been saying this always and you know that:)
I really like your blog and topics you talk about
I don't know of endless waiting.. I using disqus since a while now, a month since I returned to Blogger platform and before that also was using it and I get comments from ppl around the world and they haven't said anything.. Some comments even come moments after I publish so I doubt it takes that long to load.. I've replied to Animesh, just check like that. if its synced b4, it'll show a pause button style "disable". :) removing disqus, no issues.. but I don't recommend other forms like Intensedebate or etc. Don't know of commentluv, that u have to ask Arti herself :) the normal form of blogger is quite good, only feature I use disqus for mainly is the threaded comments!
Leo, ok alright, will check that. tks :)
I'am currently using Disqus on my travel blogging platform but im very tempted to switch over to the Facebook commenting system. One problem i faced with Disqus is that if you blog or site is authored by multiple users, then its very difficult to notify the authors when any new comment is posted on their page. With facebook its really easy and one other major advantage with facebook is that the comments show up on the commenter's ticker and his friends can join in on the conversation without leaving facebook. That IMO is another huge plus in favor of facebook.
Animesh :P I use disqus.. and if u keep it in sync with blogger, then if u remove also, the old comments will still be seen. I know so for a fact :P
It is a problem with mobile commenting, yes.. but unless the post is like 3 or 4 lines long, it is loaded by the time u read the post, so no issues :)
It ain't the best featured thing, but then again, if u want to reply to each comment like a thread, it is a good add-on any time :)
Animesh, there is an option in the disqus.. I dont know where exactly, but it is there. I think, in import/export, click on Blogger.. u'll get it. if it says "Enable" in "Keep Blogger in Sync with Disqus" or something like that, then click that and ur comments on disqus will be synced to blogger comments feed :) Check it once, I donno if its for comments from the moment u enable the syncing or all comments b4 that too since mine ws enabled from the start.
I have seen that but as far as I know it works one way ony. That is comments made on blogger are updated on Disqus but comments made on Disqus do not reflect in blogger and thats the actual problem. The moment you remove disqus, all comments made there are gone with it:(
so far, it's worked both ways for me, Animesh. :) so not sure m the right person to say it'll work every time I guess.
There is one more problem with it which should always be kept in mind. While can easily import your previous comments from blogger, wordpress or anyother blogging patform, there is no way you can export it back from blogger in case you decide not to use it anymore.
Comment luv isn't a commenting tool as such. It is a part of the commneting system Íntense Debate'' I have once installed it on my blog but removed it again as I had no idea of how to modify the colours used so that it fits well on my blog.
